Yellen went 2-for-4 and scored once, sophomore Francis Kiely (Falmouth, Maine) singled and drove in a run, and seniors Jack Pirkl (Brightwaters, N.Y.) and Thomas Lapham (Charlestown, Mass.) both singled and scored a run for the Beavers. Junior MJ Metz (San Diego, Calif.) went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored, junior Nathan Braulick (San Antonio, Texas) singled twice and sophomore Cristian Holloway (Brownsville, Texas) drove in a pair of runs for the Tigers. Senior Corey Cater (Sacramento, Calif.) shouldered the loss to fall to 0-2 on the year after allowing five runs on five hits to go along with eight strikeouts in 6.0 innings.
Senior Michael Montrezza (Los Gatos, Calif.) worked a one-walk and later scored on Holloway's two-out RBI single to give the hosts a 1-0 lead in the last of the third. Lapham followed with a single to left and advanced to second on a throwing error before Yellen drove in him and Santos with a knock to center for a 5-1 advantage. Trinity struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame to cut its deficit in half, but Spalter caught sophomore Matt McNaney (Albuquerque, N.M.) looking with the bases loaded to escape further damage.
The Tigers pulled within a run on an RBI ground out by Holloway in the seventh, but senior William Cournan (Pembroke, Mass.) worked around a two-walk in his collegiate debut in the eighth and McLendon struck out Holloway following a double by Metz to close out the win in the ninth.
