CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine—Sophomore Lucas Wiacek (Douglaston, N.Y.) came in fifth to help the Babson College men's alpine ski team finish second in the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) Eastern Regional Championships at Sugarloaf Mountain on Saturday.
The Beavers' top three skiers finished just under 10 seconds behind first-place Castleton, while Clarkson came in third. Northeastern and fellow MacConnell Division rival Connecticut rounded out the top five.
Wiacek moved up three spots with a fast second run to post a two-run time of 1:19.28 that was good for fifth. Senior Victor Wiacek (Douglaston, N.Y.) moved up eight spots in his second run to place 13th overall with a time of 1:21.48, which was just 0.13 seconds ahead of junior Jack Beney (Greenwich, Conn.), who finished in 14th position.
Sophomore Kyle Wolff (Stratham, N.H.) jumped seven spots in his final run to come in 18th overall with a time of 1:22.95. Classmate Ryan Beardsley (Warren, Vt.) was in third position following his first run but was unable to complete his second trip down the hill.
Babson will compete in the giant slalom at Sugarloaf on Sunday at 9:30 a.m.
