Box Score

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Senior Martina Jankovic Chin (Zapresic, Croatia) recorded 11 kills and graduate student Izzy Seebold (Concord, N.C.) finished with 24 assists, seven digs and four blocks to help second-seeded Babson College sweep third-seeded Springfield, 25-17, 25-18, 25-21, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament semifinal on Saturday afternoon inside Rockwell Cage.

Babson, which is second in the most recent NCAA Region II rankings, improves to 21-7 overall and advances to the conference final for the fifth time in the last eight seasons. Springfield, which is ranked fifth in Region II, likely sees its season come to a close at 18-8.

Senior Lauren MacDonald (Westwood, Mass.) and junior Lulu McShane (Glencoe, Ill.) both contributed seven kills and combined with Jankovic Chin to hit a blistering .316 for the Beavers. Junior Lauren Gips (Orlando, Fla.) led all players with six blocks, classmate Olivia Leinenweber (Neptune Beach, Calif.) recorded a team-high eight digs and sophomore Tatum Stelter (Glendale, Ariz.) chipped in with seven digs and three service aces in the win.

Sophomore Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) led all players with 13 kills and added 10 digs to pace the Pride, which hit just .130 on the day. Classmate Kylie Wixted (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) contributed five kills and graduate student Ally Townsend (Hummelstown, Pa.) registered a match-high 11 digs in the loss.

The Green and White used four early errors by Springfield and got back-to-back kills by Jankovic Chin to jump out to a quick 8-3 lead in game one. An ace by first-year Roz Cabuena (Kailua, Hawaii) made it 14-7 and the Beavers scored five consecutive points on the serve of Leinenweber to take their biggest advantage of the stanza at 20-8 on the way to taking the first set.

Babson wasted little time taking control of game two as it got a pair of aces and scored six consecutive points on the serve of first-year Sophia Shaw (Novato, Calif.). Gips and Jankovic Chin recorded back-to-back kills and then combined on a block to make it 12-3 and Seebold was a part of two more blocks during an 8-2 run that helped the Beavers stretch the margin to 17-5.

The Green and White started fast again in game three, using two kills apiece by McShane and Isabella Allen (Williamsville, N.Y.) and consecutive aces by Stelter to go in front 8-3. The Pride scored four straight points to cut its deficit to one before Babson rattled off an 8-1 run that included kills by Seebold, Jankovic Chin and MacDonald to stretch the margin to 16-8.

Springfield got as close as three on four occasions late in the stanza but the Beavers answered each time getting late kills from Gips, MacDonald and Jankovic Chin to close out the match.

Babson will take on top-seeded and 20th-ranked MIT in the NEWMAC Tournament final at 1 p.m. on Sunday in Cambridge.
