Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I.—Junior Kelly Walsh (Goffstown, N.H.) led all scorers with 17 points and classmate Madison Odam (San Jose, Calif.) posted a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds as No. 21/25 Babson College defeated Rhode Island College, 62-34, in non-conference women's basketball action on Wednesday night inside the Murray Center.
With the win, Babson improves to 2-0 on the year, while Rhode Island College slips to 1-2 with its second consecutive loss.
Walsh added career highs of six steal and three blocked shots to go along with three assists, while Odam finished 6-of-11 from the floor for the Beavers. Senior Samantha Smith (Greenfield, Mass.) added eight points, seven boards and two blocks, and classmate Megan Bauman (East Lyme, Conn.) chipped in with eight points on 4-of-8 shooting.
Sophomore Angelina Nardolillo (Hinsdale, N.H.) scored eight points and grabbed 12 rebounds and senior Izabelle Booth (Newport, R.I.) contributed seven points and 12 boards to pace the Anchorwomen. Fellow senior Jeniyah Jones (Randolph, Mass.) also chipped in with seven points in the loss.
Odam the visitors' first seven points and Walsh added 11 of her own during a 15-2 run, including a three-pointer with 1:03 to go in the opening stanza, to give Babson a 22-8 lead. Smith extended the margin to 26-10 with her first hoop of the game with 8:33 to go in the second and Odam, sophomore Kiara Simone Davis (Coral Gables, Fla.), Walsh and Bauman each scored during an 8-0 run that gave the Beavers their largest advantage of the first half at 34-13 with 4:51 to go before the break.
The Green and White went scoreless for a stretch of over five minutes before hitting Rhode Island College with a 19-0 run following a Booth three-pointer that trimmed the margin to 34-17 just 51 seconds into the third quarter. The Beavers scored on seven consecutive possessions and got points from four different players during the spurt, which was capped by a Walsh three-pointer to make it 53-17 with 3:54 to go in the period.
Davis followed up a bucket by Nardolillo with a jumper and sophomore Camilla Silk (Medfield, Mass.) converted a feed from Bauman to help Babson match its largest lead of the night at 57-21 to end the third.
The Beavers shot 36.4 percent from the floor and turned 15 Anchorwomen turnovers into 18 points. They also outscored the hosts 38-18 in the paint.
Rhode Island College shot just 16.7 percent from the floor and was a dismal 2-of-25 from three-point range in the loss.
Both teams return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. as Babson hosts Roger Williams, while the Anchorwomen take on Endicott.
