No. 15 Men's Soccer Tops Coast Guard, 3-0

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—No. 15 Babson College got goals from three different players and senior Mitchell Collins (Burlington, Mass.) finished with a pair of assists in Saturday's 3-0 win over the 25th-ranked Coast Guard Academy in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

Babson, which is unbeaten over its last five matches, improves to 8-2-2 overall and 4-0-0 in league play, while Coast Guard drops to 7-2-2 overall and 1-2-1 in the NEWMAC.

Senior RJ Parrilla (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and juniors Louis Gazo (Colchester, Vt.) and Shamar Rainford (Randolph, Mass.) each finished with a goal for the Beavers. Fellow junior Ryan Kim (San Ramon, Calif.) chipped in with an assist and sophomore Walker White (Coral Gables, Fla.) made one save to record his third shutout of the year.

Junior goalkeeper Josh Hudson (Tempe, Ariz.) made three saves in a losing effort for the Bears.

The Green and White took the lead in the 33rd minute when Coast Guard was able to clear the ball following a corner kick. Collins gained possession and played the ball wide to his left for Kim and Gazo was first to his service and flicked a header over Hudson for his third goal of the year.

The Beavers doubled their advantage less than four minutes into the second half thanks to a miscue at the back by the Bears. Collins played a low service into the box that got past a defender and through the arms of Hudson allowing Parrilla to tap it in for the first goal of the season and the second of his career.

Rainford capped the scoring in the 78th minute by converting a penalty kick after he was taken down in the box for his fourth goal of the fall. White's lone save of the afternoon was a good one as he extended to push Coast Guard sophomore Micah Messner's (Mableton, Ga.) bid from distance over the crossbar in the 87th minute.

The Beavers finished with a slim 9-6 edge in shots and also attempted five of the seven corner kicks in the match. Additionally, the teams combined for 41 fouls.

Babson returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Connecticut College at 7 p.m., while Coast Guard travels to Norwich on Monday for a 3 p.m. contest.
