No. 14/16 Men's Soccer Rolls Past Springfield, 3-0

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Graduate student Ben Williams (Scarborough, Ontario) scored a pair of first-half goals to help No. 14/16 Babson College defeat visiting Springfield College, 3-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

With its fifth straight win, Babson improves to 13-3-2 overall and finishes league play at 7-0 for the first time in program history. Springfield sees its year come to a close at 3-11-2 overall and 2-5 in the NEWMAC.

Sophomore Lyndon Way (Houston, Texas) had a goal and graduate student Ryan Goss (Glastonbury, Conn.), senior Ross Shellow (Miami, Fla.), junior Louis Gazo (Colchester, Vt.) and classmate Ryan Kim (San Ramon, Calif.) each registered an assist for the Beavers. Sophomore goalkeeper Walker White (Coral Gables, Fla.) did not have to make a first-half save, while first-year Derek Polanco (Verona, N.J.) stopped three shots over the final 18 minutes.

Senior goalkeeper Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) made three saves for the Pride.

The Green and White wasted little time jumping in front thanks to Williams' 10th goal just 4:08 into the contest. Knibbs got a piece of Gazo's header off a service by Goss, but it deflected off the left post and Williams tapped in the rebound for a 1-0 lead.

Williams scored his second goal of the match and his 11th of the season to make it 2-0 in the 32nd minute. Springfield was unable to clear the ball following a corner kick and Shellow slipped a ball through traffic to Williams, who finished inside the right post.

The Beavers put the finishing touches on their victory when Way made a back-post run to knock in Kim's corner kick for his second marker of the year in the 73rd minute.

The Green and White finished with a 27-5 advantage in shots and a 10-3 edge in corner kicks on the day.

Top-seeded Babson will host a NEWMAC Tournament semifinal on Thursday afternoon. The opponent and game time will be announced later on Saturday.
