No. 15/19 Men's Soccer Suffers 3-0 Loss at No. 22 Connecticut College

Box Score

NEW LONDON, Conn.—No. 22 Connecticut College scored twice inside of eight minutes midway through the first half and got goals from three different players in a 3-0 win over No. 15/19 Babson College in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday night at Silfen Field.

Babson, which had its five-game unbeaten streak halted, dips to 8-3-2 on the year, while Connecticut College improves to 6-3-2 overall.

Sophomore goalkeeper Walker White (Coral Gables, Fla.) matched his career high with seven saves in a losing effort for the Beavers.

Senior Augie Djerdjaj (Mahopac, N.Y.), first-year Elliot Spatz (Bellevue, Wash.) and classmate Gaven Vanden Berg (Lake Forest Park, Wash.) each had a goal for the Camels, who had five different players record an assist in the victory. Sophomore goalkeeper Peter Silvester (Smiths Parish, Bermuda) finished with three saves to post his third shutout of the year.

White made four saves over the first 14 minutes and Babson graduate student Ryan Goss (Glastonbury, Conn.) cleared a header by Spatz off the line less than three minutes into the match. Connecticut College finally broke through in the 20th minute though, as Spatz collected a thru ball from sophomore Nathan Pilson (Wilmington, Del.) in the left side of the box and calmly finished past White, who came charging off his line for a 1-0 lead.

The Camels doubled their advantage in the 28th minute as junior Jake Creus (Rye, N.Y.) dribbled into the box before laying a pass off for Djerdjaj, who curled a right-footed shot inside the left post from just inside the top of the box for his team-leading fifth goal of the year.

The Beavers put together their best offensive push of the game early in the second half but were unable to cut into the deficit. Silvester pushed junior Samuel Kalishman's (Clarksville, Md.) blast from 25 yards over the crossbar in the 49th minute and barely held onto senior Liam Hanlon's (Boxborough, Mass.) header before it crossed the goal line on the ensuing corner kick.

White made his best save of the night in the 55th minute, reacting quickly to a point-blank attempt off the foot of Djerdjaj. Connecticut College tacked on an insurance goal in the 77th minute with a header after Babson was unable to clear the ball following a corner kick.

The Beavers were outshot 19-8 in the match and the Camels attempted seven of the 10 corner kicks on the night.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson travels to WPI at 3 p.m., while Connecticut College visits Colby at 2 p.m.
