Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.— Graduate student Ben Williams (Scarborough, Ontario) scored a pair of second half goals to lead No. 18 Babson College to a 2-0 victory over Clark University Saturday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
With the win, Babson posted its second straight shutout and improves to 6-2-2 overall and 3-0-0 in the NEWMAC while Clark drops to 2-9 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Senior Mitchell Collins (Burlington, Mass.), junior Ryan Kim (San Ramon, Calif.) and graduate student Ryan Goss (Glastonbury, Conn.) picked up assists for the Beavers, and sophomore keeper Walker White (Coral Gables, Fla.) earned his second clean sheet after making one save.
First-year Diego Marin (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) had a busy day in goal for the visitors and finished with eight saves.
Babson carried much of the play in the first half and finished with an 8-3 margin in shots but could put one in the goal. Graduate student Daniel Moura (Port St. Lucie, Fla) nearly gave Clark an early edge with a shot that went wide of the goal in the eighth minute. Marin kept the game scoreless with a pair of saves in the first 45 minutes.
The Beavers finally broke through on Williams' first goal in the 59th minute. Kim danced along the left wing and Collins headed his cross to the back post back across the box for Williams, who finished with a volley from the edge of the six-yard box for his fifth of the season.
The Green and White doubled the lead in the 79th minute with Williams' second of the game. Williams played a through ball to Goss in the box, who dribbled past the keeper and dropped a pass back for Williams who hit a one-touch finish through traffic to make it 2-0.
That was all the visitors could handle as Babson outshot Clark 14-1 in the second half and 22-4 for the game. The hosts also had a 10-2 margin in corner kicks.
Babson continues its three-game homestand Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. with a non-conference battle vs. Suffolk. Clark returns to the pitch on Wednesday night with a home contest against Worcester State at 7:00 p.m.
