Weekend Preview: Alpine Skiing Travels to Pat's Peak and Mount Sunapee for MacConnell Division Races

WHAT TO KNOW
• The Babson alpine ski teams travel to New Hampshire for two days of competition beginning on Saturday morning.
• The Beavers and their MacConnell Division rivals will take part in the slalom at Pat's Peak for the third time since 2018 on Saturday before heading to Mount Sunapee for the giant slalom on Sunday.

LAST TIME AT PAT'S PEAK
• Jack Blanchard '20, junior Liam Mooney and classmate Jack Beney finished third through fifth to help the Babson men come in second in the slalom at Pat's Peak on February 1, 2020.
• Elizabeth Baer '20 and junior Lauren Abdow placed seventh and ninth, respectively, for the Babson women as the team finished in fifth position.

LAST TIME AT MOUNT SUNAPEE
• Abdow (2nd), Baer (3rd) and Sarah Mangiacotti '21 (7th) all posted top-10 finishes to help the Babson women to a runner-up finish in the GS on February 2, 2020.
• MacIntyre Henderson '20, junior Zach Roman, Blanchard and Beney came in fourth through seventh to help the Beavers to a runner-up finish in the men's GS.

SCOUTING THE BABSON WOMEN
• The Beavers have finished as the runner-up in each of their first four MacConnell Division races after taking second twice in the GS last weekend at Whiteface Mountain.
• Sophomore Caroline Haaijer followed up an eighth-place showing last Friday by coming in fifth on Saturday, Abdow was sixth in the opening race of the weekend, and first-year Amelie Alkier finished 13th on day one and ninth on the second day of competition.
• Haaijer (4th) and Abdow (8th) both rank in the top 10 in the MacConnell Division standings after two weekends, while Alkier is currently 13th after placing ninth in two of the last three races.
• Senior Julia Martin owns four top-20 finishes to begin the season and is 16th in the league standings.

SCOUTING THE BABSON MEN
• The Beavers placed second last Friday and third on Saturday in the giant slalom at Whiteface Mountain.
• Sophomore Ryan Beardsley (4th/6th) and first-year Zach Carpenter (9th/7th) both recorded a pair of top-10 results, while sophomores Lucas Wiacek (5th) and Kyle Wolff (7th) were among six Babson competitors to finish among the top 10 last Friday.
• Beardsley (5th) and Carpenter (7th) both own four consecutive top-10 finishes to begin the season and are joined in the top 10 of the league standings by Wolff (8th) and Beney (10th).
• Senior Victor Wiacek, who did not race at Whiteface, enters the weekend ranked 14th in the MacConnell Division.

CONSISTENTLY NEAR THE TOP
• The Babson men have recorded 15 straight top-three finishes and have placed outside the top three just twice in 24 MacConnell Division races dating back to the start of the 2019 campaign.
• The Babson women own two victories and 13 top-three results in 14 races since the start of the 2020 season.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
• The Castleton women have taken first place in four straight races to begin the season and have finished first in 16 of 18 league competitions since the middle of the 2019 campaign. The Beavers, with two victories, are the only other MacConnell Division school to win during this stretch.
• Castleton, which has won three of the first four men's races, Babson and Clarkson have finished among the top three in 10 of the last 11 races going back to 2020.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers travel to West Mountain in Queensbury, N.Y., for a pair of giant slalom races on February 5-6.
