Kramer's third-period goals lift No. 9 Men's Ice Hockey past Skidmore, 3-2

Box Score

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— Sophomore Thomas Kramer (Bridgewater, Mass.) scored a pair of third-period goals less than four minutes apart Friday evening to lift No. 9 Babson College to a 3-2 victory over Skidmore College in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's ice hockey contest inside the Saratoga City Rink.

With the win, Babson won its third straight game to improve to 12-4-2 overall and 7-4-2 in conference games while Skidmore had its five-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 12-7-1 overall and 7-5-1 in the NEHC.

Kramer posted his second multi-goal game of the season and junior Rory Casey (Newton, Mass.) scored his first career goal for the Beavers. Senior Ryan Black (Pomfret, Conn.) collected a pair of assists and sophomore Colby Bailey (Southborough, Mass.) and seniors Mike Egan (Billerica, Mass.), John Corrigan (Stoneham, Mass.) and Trevor Marcinick (Dublin, Ohio) tallied one assist each. Graduate student Brad Arvanitis (Holliston, Mass.) made 26 saves in goal to improve his record to 7-2-2.

First-year Kaeden Patrick (Vancouver, B.C.) scored both goals for the Thoroughbreds, and seniors Mike Gelatt (Middletown, N.J.) and Reid Russell (Napanee, Ont.), sophomore Everett Wardle (Hewlett, N.H.) and first-year Will Dow-Kenny (Abbotsford, B.C.) notched one assist each. Sophomore Tate Brandon (Irvington, N.H.) made 22 saves in the setback.

Casey put the Beavers on the scoreboard midway through the first period, sending a rebound past the goalie after Brandon had made a save on a shot from the point by Bailey. It was Casey's first goal in 28 career outings. Patrick stuffed in a puck for Skidmore near the left goal post on a power play midway through the second frame to deadlock the score at 1-1 heading into the final period.

Patrick gave Skidmore the lead 1:46 into the third period, skating from behind the net, circling out in front and stuffing the puck through Arvanitis' pads. Kramer tied the game for the Beavers with his first goal of the night from the left circle during a 3-on-2 break at 7:26, and potted the eventual game-winner at 11:17 from the right circle after a nice feed from Black in the slot.

Arvanitis made three saves in the final two minutes to preserve the win, including a pair of stops after Skidmore had pulled Brandon in favor of an extra skater.

Skidmore finished with a 28-25 advantage in shots. The Thoroughbreds converted one of three power play opportunities while the Beavers came up empty on two tries with the man advantage.

Both teams return to the ice Saturday at 4 p.m., weather permitting, as Babson travels to Castleton and Skidmore hosts Southern Maine.
