Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Mike Egan (Billerica, Mass.) scored a pair of third-period goals and finished with three points in all to help fifth-ranked Babson College defeat visiting Johnson & Wales University, 7-4, in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action on Saturday afternoon inside the Babson Skating Center.
With the win, Babson improves to 10-4-2 overall and 6-4-2 in league play. Johnson & Wales dropped its fifth straight game and is now 4-14-0 overall and 2-9-0 in the NEHC.
Seniors John Corrigan (Stoneham, Mass.), Trevor Marcinick (Dublin, Ohio) and Max Torrez (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Thomas Kramer (Bridgewater, Mass.) each finished with a goal and an assist for the Beavers. Senior Cam Schmitt (Andover, Mass.) scored once and classmates Ryan Black (Pomfret, Conn.) and Matt Wiesner (Newport Beach, Calif.) chipped in with two assists apiece as 12 different players recorded a point in the win.
Junior netminder Nolan Hildebrand (Penticton, British Columbia) made 18 saves to improve to 3-1 on the year for the Green and White.
Senior Logan Orem (Nashville, Tenn.), junior Kodi Legassie (Orrington, Maine) and sophomores Breck Crawford (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Declan Dennehy (Duxbury, Mass.) all scored once for the Wildcats, who got 28 saves from first-year goaltender Jacob Perrin (Chelmsford, Mass.).
Babson, which had held a pair of two-goal leads in the second period, went in front for good at 6:01 of the third when Egan finished off a feed across the top of the crease from Kramer on the power play for his seventh tally of the season. Just over two minutes later he collected a pass from Black along the goal line and drove the net to beat Perrin for a key insurance goal.
Marcinick put the finishing touches on the victory with an empty net tally at the 19:40 mark for the final margin.
Torrez put the Green and White in front 1-0 with his third goal of the season 4:53 into the opening period but Johnson & Wales answered back to tie it on Orem's tally just 38 seconds later. Schmitt went up high to beat Perrin from the left circle on the power play at 11:23 of the first for a 2-1 lead and Corrigan scored on an odd-man rush 3:27 into the second period to extend the Beavers' advantage to 3-1.
Kramer gave Babson a 4-2 lead by redirecting Corrigan's blast from the point on the power play at 10:48 of the second, but the Wildcats got goals from Legassie and Crawford less than two minutes apart to pull even at 4-4 with 2:29 to go in the period.
The Beavers, who finished with a 35-22 advantage in shots, went 3-for-5 on the power play.
Babson returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Amherst at 7 p.m. Johnson & Wales travels to Southern Maine on Sunday for a 2:30 p.m. face-off.
