Game Preview: No. 5 Men's Ice Hockey at New England College

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 45-22-8 all-time against New England College in a series that dates back to 1977.
• The Beavers swept a pair of home-and-home series last winter and have won their last five games against the Pilgrims dating back to 2020.
• Babson and NEC have split their last seven games in Henniker since 2017 with each squad winning three times to go along with a tie.
• Going back to 2015, six of the last 18 games between the teams have gone to overtime.

LAST MEETING
• Junior James Perullo finished with a goal and two assists and Patrick Flynn '21 and senior Matt Wiesner both scored once to go along with a helper as Babson defeated New England College, 6-2, on March 13, 2021, in Henniker, N.H.
• Junior Andrew Holland, Christian Faggas '21 and Nick Rosa '21 also contributed goals for the Beavers, who pulled away with four second-period tallies.
• Senior Connor Inger recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Pilgrims.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 5 Babson (9-2-2, 5-2-2 NEHC) bounced back from its first loss since November 13 by defeating No. 5 Hobart, 5-3, on Sunday.
• Wiesner and graduate student Paul Boutoussov both recorded a goal and two assists and fellow graduate student Brad Arvanitis stopped 36 shots for the Beavers, who scored twice on the power play.
• Senior Ryan Black (10-8-18) is tied for eighth in the league in points, classmate Mike Egan (6-9-15) ranks second on the team in assists and Wiesner (7-7-14) and sophomore Thomas Kramer (6-8-14) have both scored twice on the power play.
• Arvanitis has gone 5-1-2 with a 2.58 goals against average and ranks fourth in the NEHC with a .923 save percentage in eight starts this winter.

SCOUTING THE PILGRIMS
• New England College (8-5-1, 3-5-1 NEHC) snapped a three-game losing streak with an 11-0 win over Johnson & Wales on Saturday.
• Junior Chris Lee scored three times and classmate Alex LaPlante finished with two goals and two assists for the Pilgrims, who saw 11 different players record a point in the blowout victory.
• LaPlante (8-6-14), senior Trevor Mormot (7-7-14) and Inger (6-8-14) are tied for the team lead in points and have combined for eight power play goals, while first-year David Novotny (7-6-13) has produced at least a point in three of the last four games.
• Senior Spencer Kozlowski (3-2-1) boasts a 1.48 goals against average and a .947 save percentage in six starts, while classmate Andrew Kormos is 5-3-0 on the year with a 2.51 goals against average and a .930 save percentage.

WIESNER COLLECTS NEHC RECOGNITION
• In addition to his three-point outing on Sunday, Wiesner scored a third-period goal in Saturday's loss at then-10th-ranked Elmira and was selected as the league's player of the week on Monday.
• He has produced three goals and three assists for six points over the Beavers' last three contests.

POINTS AGAINST THE PILGRIMS
• Black has produced a point in all eight career games against NEC, totaling four goals and 13 assists for 17 points.
• Egan (8-4-12) is riding a seven-game points streak against the Pilgrims, while Wiesner has contributed five goals and two assists and seven points during his five-game scoring streak in the series.

CROWDED NEAR THE TOP
• At the midway point of NEHC play, first through sixth place in the standings are separated by just four points.
• Babson picked up three key points thanks to Sunday's win at first-place Hobart (20 points) and currently sits in fifth place, two points behind Elmira, UMass Boston and Norwich, and one point ahead of Skidmore.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• Babson, which ranks 10th in Division III in scoring offense at 4.23 goals per game, has tallied at least three goals in 10 consecutive games.
• The Beavers are 6-0-1 this season and are unbeaten in their last 53 games going back to the start of the 2017-18 campaign when carrying a lead into the third period.
• Babson is 6-0-2 this winter when allowing three goals or less.

A LOOK AHEAD
• The Beavers will play seven of their next nine games inside the Babson Skating Center, beginning with games against UMass Boston on Friday at 7 p.m. and Johnson & Wales on Saturday at 4 p.m.
