ANDOVER, N.H.—The Babson College men's alpine ski team opened the season with back-to-back runner-up finishes in the slalom at Proctor Ski Area on Friday and Saturday.

The Beavers finished just shy of 10 seconds behind first-place Castleton University in both races, while Clarkson University placed third both days.

Senior Victor Wiacek (Douglaston, N.Y.) was Babson's top finisher on Friday posting a two-run time of 1:28.50 that was good for sixth place. Sophomore Kyle Wolff (Stratham, N.H.) was less than a second behind him in seventh place and classmate Ryan Beardsley (Warren, Vt.) came in eighth with a time of 1:29.90.

First-year Zach Carpenter (Boulder, Colo.) totaled a time of 1:32.00 in his first two collegiate runs, while sophomore Henness Hoffmann (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) recorded a final time of 1:34.44 for the Beavers.

On Saturday, Wolff posted the first top-five finish of his career with a two-run time of 1:27.52 that was good for fifth position. Beardsley came in sixth just 0.61 seconds behind him and Carpenter was eighth with a time of 1:29.68.

Junior Jack Beney (Greenwich, Conn.) finished his two runs in 1:31.81, Wiacek recorded a final time of 1:33.73 and sophomore Kyle Goldberg (Manchester, N.H.) crossed the finish line with a time of 1:35.44 in his collegiate debut.

Babson returns to action on Friday morning at Whiteface Mountain in Lake Placid, N.Y., for the first of two giant slalom races.
