WHAT TO KNOW
• Following the postponement of last weekend's races at Wildcat Mountain and Attitash Mountain, the Babson men's and women's ski teams will open the season with a pair of slalom races at Proctor.
• This weekend's races are the first for the Beavers since March 2020 after being unable to participate due to COVID last winter.
LAST TIME AT PROCTOR SKI AREA
• The Babson men placed second and third and the women's squad recorded a pair of third-place results in the slalom at Proctor Ski Area on January 17-18, 2020.
• Senior Victor Wiacek and junior Jack Beney both posted two top-10 finishes for the Beaver men, while Elizabeth Baer '20 and current assistant coach Sarah Mangiacotti '21 recorded a pair of top-10 results apiece for the women.
SCOUTING THE BABSON MEN
• The Beavers return four veterans from a team that finished second in the MacConnell Division and seventh at the USCSA National Championships in 2020.
• Beney recorded eight top-10 finishes on the way to finishing a team-best fourth in the MacConnell Division as a rookie before finishing second in the combined standings at regionals and 17th overall at nationals.
• Juniors Liam Mooney (9th) and Zach Roman (11th) both earned All-MacConnell Division accolades in 2020, while Wiacek placed fourth in the GS at nationals to collect the first All-America honor of his career.
SCOUTING THE BABSON WOMEN
• The Green and White returns three skiers from a team that placed second in the MacConnell Division and fourth at USCSA nationals in 2020.
• Junior Lauren Abdow posted eight top-10 results on the way to earning all-league honors and also garnered All-America laurels in the slalom after placing 11th at nationals.
• Senior Julia Martin, a 2019 All-MacConnell Division honoree, came in 16th in the league's individual standings two seasons ago, while classmate Kendall Sargis recorded two of her top three finishes of the 2020 campaign (31st, 34th) in the slalom at Proctor.
FRESH FACES
• Head coach Joe Harty, who is in his 18th season overall as head coach at Babson, has 13 skiers (seven men, six women) set to make their collegiate debuts this winter for the Green and White.
CONSISTENT SUCCESS
• The Babson women have recorded five consecutive top-five finishes at the USCSA National Championships, which includes placing fourth in 2016, 2018 and 2020 and tying for fourth in 2019. They also own three runner-up and two third-place finishes in the MacConnell Division during this stretch.
• On the men's side, the Beavers have qualified for nationals in 13 straight seasons going back to 2008 and have finished second in the MacConnell Division six times in eight years going back to 2013.
UP NEXT
• The Beavers travel to Whiteface Mountain Lake Placid, N.Y., for a pair of giant slalom races on January 21-22.
