No. 13 Field Hockey Fights Past No. 3 Tufts in OT, 1-0

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Lauren Curley (Stow, Mass.) scored 8:20 into overtime to lift 13th-ranked Babson College to a 1-0 win over No. 3 Tufts University in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday night at MacDowell Field.

With its first win over a top-five team since 2017, Babson improves to 7-1 on the year, while Tufts drops to 4-1 overall.

Senior Millie Brady (Far Hills, N.J.) recorded an assist and classmate Cassidy Riley (Niantic, Conn.) finished with seven saves to record her second shutout of the year for the Beavers.

Junior Sam Gibby (Bethesda, Md.) stopped two shots in the second half and overtime for the Jumbos.

The Green and White, which was held without a shot over the first three quarters, were at their best in overtime. Curley's game winner came on the last of four straight penalty corners for the Beavers as Brady took a pass on the left side of the circle and dumped it down to Curley, who swept her finish past a Tufts defender for her third goal of the season.

Riley was superb behind a Babson defense that held the Jumbos scoreless on 14 penalty corner attempts. Riley made a kick save on senior Giallian Roeca (Baltimore, Md.) late in the first quarter and stopped four shots in the second, which included a blast off the stick of junior Reegan McCluskey (Los Gatos, Calif.) just before halftime after the Beavers were reduced to two defenders on Tufts' 10th corner of the half.

Gibby came sliding out to edge of the circle to stuff Brady with less than seven minutes to go in the fourth quarter, and Babson first-year Jessica Evans (Southbury, Conn.) missed just wide with the Jumbos scrambling to clear the ball with 1:26 to go in regulation.

The Jumbos finished with a 20-8 edge in shots and 14-6 advantage in penalty corners.

Both teams return to action on Saturday at 12 p.m. as Babson hosts MIT, while Tufts takes on Bates.
