No. 21 Men's Soccer Blanks Emerson, 2-0

Box Score

BOSTON—Senior Mitchell Collins (Burlington, Mass.) and sophomore Joseph Cardaropoli (Longmeadow, Mass.) scored just over four minutes apart late in the second half to help 21st-ranked Babson College defeat Emerson College, 2-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Rotch Field.

With the victory, Babson improves to 6-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in league play, while Emerson drops to 2-4-1 overall and 0-2-0 in the NEWMAC.

Junior Jack Dugan (Haddonfield, N.J.) recorded two assists and junior RJ Parrilla (Pawcatuck, Conn.) and first-year Lorenzo Mancini (Franklin, Mass.) each finished with one assist for the Beavers. Senior goalkeeper Itai Rubin (Briarcliff, N.Y.) stopped three shots to earn his fourth shutout of the year.

First-year Jacob Remer (Los Angeles, Calif.) made three saves for the Lions.

Collins broke the scoreless deadlock in the 76th minute with his first goal of the season. Mancini started the play with a long pass to Dugan down the right side and he laid the ball off for Collins, who beat Remer with a 25-yard shot to the upper left corner for a 1-0 lead.

The Beavers doubled their advantage in the 80th minute just moments after Collins forced a diving save from Remer. Parrilla took a pass from Dugan and floated a ball into the box for Cardaropoli, who flicked a header over Remer for his first collegiate marker.

Babson was in control for much of the match and dominated the scoring chances. Remer denied a penalty kick by senior Ross Shellow (Miami, Fla.) in the 21st minute and classmate Robert Dunne (Medway, Mass.) sent a bending free kick just wide of the right post in the 66th minute. The Green and White also put a header just wide off a corner kick by Collins in the 67th minute.

The Beavers return to action on Tuesday when they host No. 1/1 Tufts at 3:30 p.m., while Emerson takes on Eastern Nazarene on Monday at 6 p.m.
