Men's Soccer Edges Brandeis, 1-0

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior Noah Labelle (Bradenton, Fla.) scored the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute as Babson College defeated visiting Brandeis University, 1-0, in non-conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

With the win, Babson improves to 3-1 on the year, while Brandeis slips to 1-3-1 with its second consecutive loss.

Sophomore Joseph Cardaropoli (Longmeadow, Mass.) registered an assist and senior Itai Rubin (Briarcliff, N.Y.) made two saves to record his second shutout of the season for the Beavers.

Aiden Guthro (Newburyport, Mass.) finished with six saves for the Judges.

The Green and White broke the scoreless deadlock late in the first half following a Brandeis giveaway deep in their own half of the field. Cardaropoli pounced on a loose ball following a heavy first touch by a Judges' defender and slipped a pass to Labelle on his right, who beat the diving Guthro from 10 yards for his second goal of the year.

Babson outshot Brandeis 19-4 and had the better of the chances throughout the match. First-year Matthew Thompson's (Medfield, Mass.) 25-yard blast went just wide of the left post in the 36th minute and Cardaropoli nearly doubled the lead in the 71st only to see his blast from the edge of the six-yard box off a cross from Labelle go just wide of the near post.

Rubin made his best save of the day just before Labelle's goal as he came off his line to push away a cross by first-year Jaylen Morris (Hookset, N.H.) before snaring the rebound attempt by classmate Toby Marwell (New York, N.Y.) to keep the game deadlocked.

In what is always a physical affair, Saturday's match featured 21 fouls and five yellow cards.

Babson returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Western New England at 4 p.m., while Brandeis is set to host Tufts next Saturday at 1 p.m.
