Men's Ice Hockey Completes Weekend Sweep with 3-1 Win at Plymouth State

Box Score

PLYMOUTH, N.H.—Visiting Babson College scored once in each period and got 25 saves from sophomore goaltender Nolan Hildebrand (Penticton, British Columbia) on the way to defeating Plymouth State University, 3-1, in college men's ice hockey action on Saturday afternoon inside Hanaway Rink.

With the win, Babson sweeps the weekend series and improves to 6-0 on the year. Plymouth State drops to 2-2 overall.

Senior Christian Faggas (Norwood, Mass.) and juniors Ryan Black (Pomfret, Conn.) and Jack Nisbet (Scituate, Mass.) each had a goal for the Beavers. Senior Nick Rosa (Birmingham, Mich.) picked up an assist in the win.

Junior Michael McPherson (Somerville, Mass.) scored the for the second game in a row for the Panthers, while senior JR Barone (West Chester, Pa.) and junior Simon Besner (North Lancaster, Ontario) each recorded an assist. First-year goaltender Kalle Andersson (Taby, Sweden) stopped 32 of 34 shots in his second start of the season to fall to 1-1.

Nisbet opened the scoring with his first goal of the season at 8:41 of the first period. He carried the puck through the neutral zone and fired a wrist shot from the right face-off circle over Andersson's shoulder for a 1-0 advantage.

The Beavers doubled their lead 5:17 into the second period when Black scored his team-leading seventh goal of the year. Andersson turned away Rosa's shot after he stripped a Plymouth State defenseman trying to leave the zone, but Black was on top of the crease to put away the rebound.

McPherson cut the Panthers' deficit in half late in the second when he gathered a deflected pass and slipped it past an outstretched Hildebrand just 23 seconds before the intermission. Andersson kept the margin at one when he made a sprawling save on Babson junior Max Torrez (Framingham, Mass.) just over three minutes into the third period, but Faggas tacked on an insurance goal at the 19:17 mark when his clearance from deep in the defensive zone found the empty net for his first tally of the year.

The Beavers, who went 0-for-6 on the power play, finished with a 35-26 edge in shots. Plymouth State converted once in four power play opportunities.

Both teams are back in action next Friday as Babson hosts New England College at 6:30 p.m., while the Panthers take on Norwich at 4 p.m.
