Box Score Beavers Finish Shortened Season at 8-0
HENNIKER, N.H.—Sophomore James Perullo (Revere, Mass.) finished with a goal and two assists and visiting Babson College scored four times in the second period to pull away for a 6-2 win over New England College in men's ice hockey action on Saturday afternoon inside Lee Clement Arena.
With the victory, Babson wraps up the season at 8-0, while New England College falls to 3-5 on the year.
Senior Patrick Flynn (Framingham, Mass.) and junior Matt Wiesner (Newport Beach, Calif.) both recorded a goal and an assist, while seniors Christian Faggas (Norwood, Mass.) and Nick Rosa (Birmingham, Mich.), and sophomore Andrew Holland (Winchester, Mass.) all scored once for the Beavers. Senior Brendan Casey (Glastonbury, Conn.) and junior Ryan Black (Pomfret, Conn.) recorded two assists apiece in the win.
Senior goaltender Brad Arvanitis (Holliston, Mass.) improved to 5-0 on the year with 30 saves for Babson.
Junior Connor Inger (Macomb, Mich.) had a goal and an assist and first-year TJ Dougan (South Eligin, Ill.) scored once for the Pilgrims, who got 33 saves from junior goaltender Andrew Kormos (Milford, Mich.).
Dougan gave New England College a 1-0 lead midway through the first with a power play goal, but Wiesner answered at the 19:24 mark by putting away the rebound of a shot by Perullo from the right point on a 5-on-3 power play for his second tally of the year. Perullo put the Beavers in front for good with a blast from the top of the left face-off circle 8:05 into the second period, and Flynn followed with his second goal of the year after beating a defender in the low slot to make it 3-1 at the 12:23 mark.
Holland made it 4-1 with a one-timer from the left circle at 17:01 of the second period and Casey intercepted a clearing pass and fed Faggas for his second goal of the year just 24 seconds later, extending the lead to 5-1. Inger scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season for the Pilgrims 10:59 into the third, but Babson regained a four-goal margin just two minutes later when Rosa redirected Egan's centering pass at the top of the crease for his fourth tally of the year.
The Beavers outshot New England College 39-32 and went 2-for-6 on the power play. The Pilgrims also had six power play opportunities, scoring once.
GAME NOTES
• Babson is 46-22-8 all-time against New England College and won all four meetings between the teams this winter.
• With his third-period tally, Rosa became the first Babson player to score 40 career goals since Mike Driscoll '15.
• The Beavers' line of Black, Rosa and Egan combined for seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points in four games against New England College this season.
• Babson is unbeaten in 13 straight games away from home, which includes a 9-0-2 mark in its last 11 road games.
