WHAT TO KNOW
• The Beavers continue their string of three consecutive games against NESCAC opponents this weekend in Maine, playing at Bowdoin on Saturday afternoon and Colby on Sunday afternoon.
SERIES HISTORY
vs. Bowdoin
• Babson is 21-27-2 all-time versus Bowdoin in a series that dates back to 1955-56.
• Saturday's game will be the first meeting between the Beavers and Polar Bears since a 7-3 Bowdoin victory on November 20, 2010 in Brunswick, Maine.
vs. Colby
• Babson is 18-18-1 all-time against the Mules in a series that dates back to 1975-76.
• Sunday's game will be the first between the Beavers and Mules since a 3-2 Babson victory on January 3, 2014 at the Babson Skating Center.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• No. 9 Babson (5-1-2, 3-1-2 NEHC) is coming off a 7-5 victory over Tufts on Tuesday evening at the Babson Skating Center.
• Senior Ryan Black tallied two goals and two assists for his second four-point game of the season while classmate Mike Egan registered his second two-goal game and sophomore Thomas Kramer finished with a goal and assist to lead the Beavers.
• Seniors Cam Schmitt and Matt Wiesner also scored for Babson and senior Aidan Murphy picked up the win in goal after making 20 saves.
• The seven-goal outburst is a season-high for Babson and the most goals in a game since a 7-0 win over New England College last March.
SCOUTING THE POLAR BEARS
• Bowdoin (0-2) is coming off a 6-1 setback at the University of New England on Tuesday.
• The Polar Bears opened their season last Saturday at home with a 1-0 NESCAC defeat at the hands of Williams.
• Sophomore goalie Alex Kozic made 24 saves in the loss to Williams and turned away 22 shots against UNE.
• Senior Cam Berube broke up the shutout against the Nor'easters with a second-period goal with assists from juniors Andy Stoneman and Chris Brown.
• Bowdoin had its entire 2020-21 season cancelled due to the pandemic. The Polar Bears finished the 2019-20 campaign with a 12-12-1 overall record and an 8-9-1 mark in the NESCAC.
SCOUTING THE MULES
• Colby (0-1) opened its season last Friday night with a 1-0 loss to conference foe Williams before having its next two games, last Saturday vs. Middlebury and Tuesday vs. Southern New Hampshire both postponed.
• Sophomore goalie Andy Beran made 23 saves on 24 shots in the loss to Williams as the Mules outshot the Ephs 43-24.
• Colby played just four games in the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 season, sweeping two from the University of New England and splitting a pair against the University of Southern Maine.
• The Mules finished 7-14-3 overall and 3-13-2 in the NESCAC in the last full season in 2019-20.
NEHC LEADERS
• With his four-point game against Tufts, Black (7-7-14) leads the NEHC in points, shares the lead in goals, and ranks tied for third with Kramer and two others in assists. Black is also tied for second in the NEHC with three power play goals.
• Egan (6-6-12) ranks third in the league in points, fifth in goals, and tied for eighth in assists.
• Graduate student Brad Arvanitis (2-1-2) ranks third in the NEHC with save percentage (.924) and fifth in goals against average (2.53).
POLL POSITION
• Babson is one of three NEHC teams ranked in the Top 9 in the USCHO.com Division III poll, and one of four in the 15. Hobart is ranked fifth, Norwich is sixth, and Babson is ninth while Elmira is 15th.
• Two other NEHC teams received votes in this week's poll – New England College and UMass Boston.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• Egan has tallied at least one point in all eight games this season, extending his points streak to 10 games dating back to last season. He has eight goals and six assists in the 10-game streak.
• The Beavers are 23-1-1 over the last three seasons when scoring first.
• Babson is 27-0-1 when leading after two periods over the last two seasons.
• The Beavers are unbeaten over their last 28 contests when allowing two or fewer goals, a streak that extends back to November 23, 2019.
A LOOK AHEAD
• Babson returns to NEHC action next week, traveling to New England College on Friday and visiting Norwich University on Saturday. Those will be the final two Beaver games before the holiday break.
