Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Sophomore Kelly Walsh (Goffstown, N.H.) scored a career-high 24 points and classmate Rachel McMenemy (Groton, Mass.) recorded her first career double-double to help Babson College defeat visiting Brandeis University, 81-65, in non-conference women's basketball action on Tuesday night at Staake Gymnasium.
With the win, Babson improves to 5-1 on the year, while Brandeis slips to 4-2 with its second consecutive loss.
Walsh knocked down a career-high six three-pointers and added four rebounds, three steals and two assists, while McMenemy finished with career highs of 17 points and 14 boards. Fellow sophomore Madison Odam (San Jose, Calif.) added 10 points and five rebounds, first-year Anika Chinthakunta (Saratoga, Calif.) contributed nine points and five assists and classmate Camilla Silk (Medfield, Mass.) chipped in with eight points and 11 rebounds.
Junior Megan Bauman (East Lyme, Conn.) also led all players with a season-high seven assists for Babson.
Senior Camila Casanueva (Santa Barbara, Calif.) scored 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting to go along with six assists, while junior Francesca Marchese (Staten Island, N.Y.) finished with 11 points to pace the Judges.
Five different players scored as the Green and White jumped out to a 20-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. Brandeis cut the deficit to 24-22 on a layup by sophomore Christina Bacon (Scituate, R.I.) three minutes into the second but Walsh scored the Beavers' next 11 points and McMenemy converted a driving layup with 49 seconds to go as the hosts pushed their margin back to 37-28 at the break.
Babson scored on six of its first nine third-quarter possessions to extended its advantage to 50-33 on a three-pointer by Odam at the 5:57 mark. The Judges answered back with a 7-0 run but another triple by Walsh and four straight points by Silk put the Beavers back up 61-49 in the closing seconds of the stanza.
The visitors got as close as nine on a three-pointer by Casanueva to end the third before the Green and White pulled away for good. McMenemy scored four points during a 9-1 spurt to open the fourth and first-year Caroline King (Rochester, Mass.) drilled consecutive triples to give the Beavers their biggest lead of the night at 76-57 with 4:15 remaining.
Babson shot 43.1 percent from the floor and knocked down a season-high 11 three-pointers. The hosts also finished with a 50-34 edge on the glass and outscored Brandeis 32-24 in the paint.
The Beavers are off until December 3 when they travel to Williams for an 8 p.m. tipoff, while the Judges host Roger Williams next Monday at 6 p.m.
GAME NOTES
• The Beavers are now 26-24 all-time against Brandeis and have won eight of the last 10 games in the series going back to 2011.
• Babson is 32-2 going back to December 2019 when scoring at least 60 points.
• Walsh's six three-pointers are tied with Jacqueline Jozefick '20 and Erin Young '15 for the most in a game by a Babson player going back to 2014.
• In three home games this winter, Babson is shooting 50 percent (25-of-50) from beyond the arc.
