With the win, Babson improves to 3-0 on the year, while Clarkson drops to 0-2.
While Walsh was the only Beaver to score in double figures, the team got balanced offense as 12 of the 14 players who saw action got into the scoring column, including 37 points off the bench. First-years Anika Chinthakunta (Saratoga, Calif.) scored nine points, Caroline King (Rochester, Mass.) added eight, and Meghan Goode (Chelmsford, Mass.) tallied seven, and classmate Camilla Silk (Medfield, Mass.) chipped in with six points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Junior Mariah Benavides (Baldwin, N.Y.) led the Golden Knights with 11 points and six rebounds while senior Maddie Pratt (Bolton Landing, N.Y.) added eight points in the setback.
The Beavers took control of the game early on, scoring the first 16 points of the game, including 12 points from Walsh. Pratt finally put Clarkson on the board six minutes into the game, but Babson went on to a 22-4 lead after one quarter.
Babson pushed the lead to over 20 points (29-8) early in the second quarter after a basket by King, but a seven-point swing by Clarkson, capped by a three-pointer by first-year Ruthie Nolan (Cambridge, N.Y.), whittled the margin down to 14 points. The Beavers got its lead back up to 20 points (41-21) after a pair of free throws by Chinthakunta with 1:48 remaining in the half, and a late bucket by Chinthakunta gave Babson a 46-23 lead at the half.
Both teams struggled offensively in the third quarter, with a total of just seven points scored in the first five minutes. Babson pulled away to a 59-35 lead after three quarters, and Clarkson got no closer than 20 points in the final stanza.
The Green and White shot 49.2 percent from the floor and had a 41-19 advantage on the boards while holding Clarkson to a 29.8 shooting percentage. A bright spot for the Golden Knights was their 88.9 percent shooting from the free throw line (16-of-18).
Babson puts its unbeaten record on the line Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. tip-off against Rhode Island College back at Staake Gymnasium. Clarkson looks for its first victory in the home opener on Tuesday against SUNY Potsdam at 5 p.m.
