No. 6 Men's Ice Hockey Powers Past Johnson & Wales in NEHC Contest, 6-0

Box Score

ATTLEBORO, Mass. — Senior Max Torrez (Framingham, Mass.) scored his first two goals of the season and classmate Jack Nisbet (Scituate, Mass.) added a goal and an assist as No. 6 Babson College blanked Johnson & Wales University, 6-0, Friday evening in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's ice hockey action at the New England Sports Village.

With the outcome, Babson improves to 3-0-1 on the season and 2-0-1 in the NEHC, while Johnson & Wales slides to 1-3 overall and 0-3 in conference play.

Torrez and senior Ryan Black (Pomfret, Conn.) tallied power play goals for the Beavers, who went 2-for-5 with the man advantage. Graduate student Paul Boutoussov (Dana Point, Calif.) and senior Mike Egan (Billerica, Mass.) also got into the scoring act for the Beavers, and senior Aidan Murphy (Walple, Mass.) made 12 saves for the shutout in his first appearance of the season.

First-year Jacob Perrin (Chelmsford, Mass.) had a busy night in the Wildcat goal, finishing with 57 saves as Babson outshot the hosts 63-16.

Babson had a 21-3 advantage in shots in the first period but managed just one goal, a power play marker by Black that was set up by senior John Corrigan (Stoneham, Mass.) and sophomore Thomas Kramer (Bridgewater, Mass.). Black extended his point-streak to 14 games with the marker.

The Beavers exploded for four goals in an 11-minute stretch in the second period to open the game up. Torrez notched his first of the game from senior Matt Wiesner (Newport Beach, Calif.) at the 1:43 mark, and Boutoussov made it 3-0 at 4:34, with an assist from Nisbet. Torrez potted his second of the night on the power play at 7:03, with juniors Andrew Holland (Winchester, Mass.) and James Perullo (Revere, Mass.) collecting assists on the play, and Nisbet followed at 12:42 with help from junior Chris Rooney (Milton, Mass.) to extend the margin to 5-0.

Egan rounded out the scoring with his third of the season on an unassisted tally three minutes into the final period.

Babson will be on the road again Saturday with an NEHC affair at UMass Boston, beginning at 4 p.m. at the Edward T. Barry Ice Rink in Boston. JWU is home again on Saturday, hosting Southern Maine at 4:30 p.m. in a conference clash.
