Box Score PLYMOUTH, N.H.—Sophomore Thomas Kramer (Bridgewater, Mass.) scored the go-ahead goal at 18:49 of the third period to help visiting Babson College rally for a 2-1 win over Plymouth State in non-conference men's ice hockey action on Saturday night at Hanaway Rink.
With the win, Babson opens the season at 1-0, while Plymouth State drops to 1-1 on the year.
First-year Wyatt George (Mount Lebanon, Pa.) recorded a goal in his collegiate debut and seniors Ryan Black (Pomfret, Conn.) and Mike Egan (Billerica, Mass.) along with junior James Perullo (Revere, Mass.) each contributed an assist for the Beavers. Graduate student Brad Arvanitis (Holliston, Mass.) stopped 33 of 34 shots to earn the victory in between the pipes.
Senior Mike McPherson (Somerville, Mass.) had a goal and junior Niks Krollis (Riga, Latvia) chipped in with an assist for the Panthers. Sophomore netminder Kalle Anderson (Taby, Sweden) finished with 27 saves in a losing effort.
Babson killed off the first minute of a hooking penalty called at 16:07 of the third before Plymouth State was whistled for interference. The Green and White took advantage as Egan controlled the puck along the end boards and slipped a pass across the top of the crease to Kramer, who beat Anderson glove side for the decisive goal with 1:11 remaining.
The Panthers went in front 1-0 just 1:26 into the contest when McPherson beat Arvanitis with a shot through traffic from the top of the right face-off circle. The Beavers pulled even just over five minutes into the third period on George's power play tally. He sent his first chance wide on a one-timer but buried his second opportunity off the stick of Perullo to make it 1-1 with 14:47 to play.
Babson returns to action on Friday when it hosts Elmira at 7 p.m., while Plymouth State faces Anna Maria next Saturday at 6 p.m.
