No. 21 Men's Soccer Settles for 0-0 2OT Draw with Clark

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior goalkeeper Itai Rubin (Briarcliff, N.Y.) made a career-high eight saves as No. 21 Babson College battled to a 0-0 double-overtime draw with visiting Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

Babson, which is unbeaten in 12 consecutive matches against NEWMAC foes, is now 6-3-1 overall and 2-0-1 in league play, while Clark is 5-5-2 overall and 0-1-2 in conference action.

Rubin made six of his eight stops after halftime and had to do the bulk of his work late in regulation and extra time. His best save came in the 87th minute as he laid out to his right to push away Cougars' senior Brian Brennan's (Stoneham, Mass.) penalty kick that was headed for the lower left corner.

Clark senior Greg Amador (Westborough, Mass.) floated a ball into the box that hit off the crossbar in the 82nd minute and Rubin was at the right post to deny graduate student Patrick Clark's (Plainville, Mass.) bid to end the game in the 90th minute. He also held the near post to handle senior Alex Maiorano's (Shrewsbury, Mass.) shot from the top of the box for his only save of overtime in the 96th minute.

Cougars' graduate student Melvin Vincent (Rochester, Mass.) finished the day with seven saves, which included a diving stop on Babson senior Ross Shellow's (Miami, Fla.) header in the fourth minute and coming off his line to smother senior Robert Dunne's (Medway, Mass.) breakaway chance in the 25th minute.

The Beavers finished with a 24-20 edge in shots but put just two of 14 attempts on target after halftime.

Both sides return to action on Tuesday as Babson hosts Suffolk at 3 p.m., while Clark entertains Fitchburg State at 7 p.m.
