Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Seniors Robert Dunne (Medway, Mass.) and Liam Hanlon (Boxborough, Mass.) both finished with a goal and an assist to help No. 21 Babson College defeat visiting Eastern Connecticut State University, 3-0, in non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
Babson, which is unbeaten over its last five matches, improves to 8-3-3 overall. Eastern Connecticut State drops to 8-6-0 overall with the loss.
Junior Rodrigo Madiedo (Coral Gables, Fla.) also scored and classmate Jack Dugan (Haddonfield, N.J.) added an assist for the Beavers. Senior goalkeeper Itai Rubin (Briarcliff, N.Y.) made one save in 85 minutes of action to pick up his eighth win of the year.
Sophomore Dylan Pallanck (Willington, Conn.) stopped four shots in 80 minutes of action for the Warriors.
The Green and White opened the scoring on Dunne's first goal of the season in the 39th minute. Hanlon regained possession in the midfield and found Dunne, who took a touch to his right and ripped a low shot through traffic that curled inside the right post.
The Beavers doubled their advantage in the 59th minute thanks to Hanlon's first marker of the year. Dugan carried the ball down the right flank and floated a cross into the box for Hanlon, who drove his header into the upper right corner from inside six yards.
Madiedo capped the scoring with his first career goal, a low 25-yard strike that beat Eastern Connecticut first-year goalkeeper Nathan Yeich (Willington, Conn.) to his right in the 84th minute.
Pallanck punched Babson first-year Nate Rouette's (Suffield, Conn.) bid from the top of the box over the bar in the 45th minute, and came off his line to get a hand on junior Nicholas Beigel's (Foxborough, Mass.) chance from 15 yards in the 70th minute. First-year Alexander Voigt (Miami, Fla.) then headed the rebound chance by Dunne out of danger.
The Beavers finished with a 15-4 edge in shots and attempted eight of the 10 corner kicks in the match.
Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts MIT at 1 p.m., while Eastern Connecticut State travels to Plymouth State at 3:30 p.m.
