Men's Ice Hockey vs. Castleton
Saturday, January 30 | 4 p.m.
Babson Skating Center | Babson Park, Mass.

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 20-5-4 all-time against Castleton in a series that dates back to 2004.
• The Beavers are unbeaten over their last 10 games (9-0-1) against the Spartans and have won six consecutive meetings against Castleton inside the Babson Skating Center.

LAST MEETING
• Junior Ryan Black recorded a goal and an assist as the then-ninth-ranked Beavers defeated Castleton, 6-1, on January 31, 2020, in Babson Park.
• Seniors Brendan Casey and Nick Rosa and juniors John Corrigan, Trevor Marcinick and Matt Wiesner all scored once for Babson, which had 14 players record at least one point.
• Sophomore Calvin Moise scored 8:54 into the third period for the Spartans.

SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
• Castleton (0-0) returns 20 players from a team that finished 6-17-3 after falling to Norwich in the quarterfinals of the NEHC Tournament.
• The Spartans bring back five of their top six scorers, highlighted by junior Glenn Wiswell who finished with 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points last winter.
• Moise (8-12-20) was second on the team in goals, senior Nick Gravina (6-10-16) scored three times on the power play, and junior Alex Manula (5-10-15) was one of six different players to record a game-winning goal.
• Sophomore Brandon Collett made 17 starts going 4-12-1 with a 4.52 goals against average and a .901 save percentage, while junior Kyle Alaverdy was 1-4-2 with a 4.48 goals against average and a .877 save percentage in seven starts between the pipes.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (0-0) returns 24 players from a team that finished the year at 18-6-2 overall after getting upset by Southern Maine in the quarterfinals of the NEHC Tournament.
• Black (12-20-32) produced the program's highest point total since 2009 last winter, Wiesner (11-16-27) was second on the team in assists, and fellow junior Mike Egan (14-12-26) led the team in goals.
• Rosa (12-10-22) has totaled 70 points in 76 career games, while classmate Patrick Flynn (6-15-21) set new career highs in both assists and points in 2019-20.
• The goaltending tandem of senior Brad Arvanitis and junior Aidan Murphy combined to post 1.48 goals against average and a .950 save percentage to go along with five shutouts last winter for Division III's third-ranked scoring defense.

SCORING AGAINST THE SPARTANS
• Marcinick scored in both of Babson's wins over Castleton last winter, while Flynn produced a pair of multi-assist games and finished with four points in the two meetings.
• Junior Ryan Campbell recorded two assists in the Beavers' 6-1 win on January 31, and the junior trio of Black, Wiesner and Egan combined for three goals and three assists in the two victories.

EGAN PICKS UP NCAA HARDWARE
• Despite playing just 23 games last winter, Egan finished as the Division III leader with six game-winning goals.
• He is the first Babson player to finish as an NCAA statistical champion since they started being awarded prior to the 1995-96 campaign.

TRADITION OF SUCCESS ROLLS ON
• Despite falling in the conference tournament quarterfinals for the first time since 2013, the Green and White earned an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament and was set to host Wesleyan in the first round prior to the coronavirus outbreak last March.
• Babson's NCAA selection was the 17th in program history and 15th since the formation of Division III in 1984. Only five schools have made more national tournament appearances over the last 37 years.

ONE-TWO PUNCH
• The Beavers' goaltending tandem of Arvanitis and Murphy put together two of the top seasons in program history last winter.
• Arvanitis, who earned ACHA All-America East third-team honors, went 8-3-1 and ranked second nationally in both goals against average (1.33) and save percentage (.954) to go along with four shutouts in 12 starts. His goals against average and save percentage both rank first in single-season program history.
• Murphy was nearly as good for the Green and White going 10-2-1 and ranking fourth in both goals against average (1.64) and save percentage (.942) to go along with one shutout in 13 starts.

SO SPECIAL
• In addition to ranking third nationally in scoring defense, the Beavers were one of just two Division III squads to rank in the top 10 on both the power play and the penalty kill.
• The Green and White converted 33.3 percent (32-of-96) of its power play opportunities, good for second nationally, and ranked eighth on the penalty kill allowing goals on just nine of its opponents' 74 opportunities for an 87.8 percent success rate.

HOW TO TUNE IN
• While no spectators will be allowed inside the Babson Skating Center this season, all home games will be streamed on the Babson Sports Network.

UP NEXT
• Babson begins a home-and-home series with Anna Maria inside the Babson Skating Center next Friday at 6:30 p.m.
