Henderson, Blanchard Conclude Careers as Beavers Only Seven-Time All-America Honorees
LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—Senior Jack Blanchard (Dover, Mass.) matched classmate MacIntyre Henderson (Park City, Utah) for the most All-America awards in program history at the Babson College men's alpine ski team finished 12th in the slalom and seventh in the combined standings at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships at Whiteface Mountain.
Rocky Mountain followed Wednesday's victory in the giant slalom with a victory in Thursday's slalom, edging second-place Castleton by just under half a second. Rocky Mountain was also first in the combined standings, while Sierra Nevada, Castleton, St. Olaf and The College of Idaho rounded out the top five.
Blanchard completed his career in grand fashion by finishing seventh with a two-run time of 1:31.01 in the slalom and also placing seventh in the combined standings to earn the sixth and seventh All-America accolades of his career. He had previously come in ninth in Wednesday's giant slalom.
First-year Jack Beney (Greenwich, Conn.) was the only other Babson skier to finish two runs on Thursday, settling for 17th place after sitting in fifth position following his opening run. Beney also placed 27th in the overall combined standings.
Henderson, who claimed the seventh All-America honor of his career with an eighth-place showing in the GS on Wednesday, did not complete his first run in the slalom. Sophomore Victor Wiacek (Douglaston, N.Y.) and first-year Liam Mooney (Manchester Center, Vt.) were both disqualified following their opening runs.
RACE NOTES
• Babson's seventh-place finish in the combined standings marked the ninth straight season it has finished in the top-10 at nationals.
• Blanchard and Henderson will graduate as the most decorated skiers in men's program history after passing Carter Dowd '16, who won six All-America awards from 2013-16.
• The Beavers were making their 13th consecutive USCSA National Championships appearance, a streak that dates back to 2008.
