Henderson Becomes Program's First Seven-Time All-American, Blanchard Earns Fifth Award of His Career
LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—Three Babson College skiers recorded top-10 finishes as the Beavers came in third in the men's giant slalom at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard (USCSA) National Championships at Whiteface Mountain.
Babson's top three finished just 0.76 seconds off the pace of first-place Rocky Mountain and only 0.14 seconds behind second-place Sierra Nevada. Castleton and Clarkson finished fourth and fifth, respectively. The Beavers' third-place showing surpassed a fourth-place result by the 2013 squad as the program's best over the last 13 years.
Babson's top finisher was sophomore Victor Wiacek (Douglaston, N.Y.), who posted a two-run time of 2:06.92 to grab fourth place and the first All-America honor of his career. He recorded the fourth best first run in the field and finished just 2.78 seconds behind the winner, Robby Kelley of Castleton.
Seniors MacIntyre Henderson (Park City, Utah) and Jack Blanchard (Dover, Mass.) continued their success at Whiteface by coming in sixth and ninth, respectively. Henderson moved up two spots in his final run and registered a time of 2:07.54, while Blanchard was less than a half-second behind him posting a two-run time of 2:08.00.
Henderson became the first men's skier in program history to earn his seventh All-America award, while Blanchard collected his second in the GS and the fifth of his career.
First-year Jack Beney (Greenwich, Conn.) moved up four spots after his initial run to finish in 16th place, while classmate Zach Roman (Mashpee, Mass.) was in 15th position following his first run but was unable to complete his second trip down the hill.
Babson returns to action on Friday when it takes place in the slalom beginning at 9:30 a.m.
