CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine—First-year Jack Beney (Greenwich, Conn.) posted his second consecutive top-five result to help the Babson College men's alpine ski team finish second in the slalom and second in the combined standings at the USCSA Eastern Regional Championships on Sunday at Sugarloaf Mountain.
The Beavers, who also came in behind Castleton in Saturday's GS, were the runner-up in Sunday's slalom. Clarkson, Maine-Farmington and Connecticut finished third through fifth in the slalom. In the combined standings, Castleton was first, Babson and Clarkson tied for second, and Maine-Farmington and Northeastern finished fourth and fifth, respectively, to join the group qualifying for nationals.
Beney recorded the second fastest run in the field and crossed the finish line in second place with a two-run time 1:23.34. Sophomore Victor Wiacek (Douglaston, N.Y.) was 0.96 seconds behind him in third place, and senior Jack Blanchard (Dover, Mass.) tied for eighth position after crossing the finish line in1:25.20.
Senior Sean Robinson (Reno, Nev.) put together a pair of strong runs to earn a 19th-place showing. Classmate MacIntyre Henderson (Park City, Utah), who was in fifth position following his opening, run placed 37th in the slalom.
In the combined standings, Beney came in second, while Wiacek (fourth) and Blanchard (sixth) both finished among the top 10. Henderson, who was the Beavers' top finisher in Saturday's GS, placed 19th.
Babson returns to action next Friday and Saturday at the NCAA Regional Championships at the Middlebury Snow Bowl.
REGIONAL NOTES
• The Beavers have now qualified for the USCSA National Championships in 13 consecutive seasons going back to 2008.
• Babson owns four consecutive top-three finishes at regionals and this weekend's runner-up result is the program's best since coming in first in the combined standings in 2017.
• Blanchard's sixth-place finish in the combined standings marked the fourth consecutive season he has finished inside the top six at the regional championships.
