Women's Hoops Pulls Away from Coast Guard for 10th Straight Win, 79-66

NEW LONDON, Conn.—Senior Emily Bonifacic (Allendale, N.J.) and sophomore Nicole Hiller (Rocky Hill, Conn.) both posted a double-doubles and six players scored in double figures as visiting Babson College defeated the Coast Guard Academy, 79-66, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEMWAC) women's basketball action on Saturday afternoon inside Roland Hall.

With its 10th consecutive victory, Babson closes the regular season at 18-7 overall and 10-0 in conference play. Coast Guard wraps up its year at 15-10 overall and 4-6 in the NEWMAC.

Bonifacic finished with 15 points and 15 rebounds and Hiller added 11 points and 10 boards to record her first career double-double for the Beavers. Senior Katherine Tamulionis (Foxboro, Mass.) scored 14 points, classmate Jacqueline Jozefick (Milford, Conn.) and first-year Megan Bauman (East Lyme, Conn.) each added 11, and first-year Samantha Smith (Greenfield, Mass.) finished with 10 points and six rebounds in the win.

First-year Jacqueline Ward (Brant Beach, N.J.) scored 14 points, Kyra Hartman (Shillington, Pa.) contributed 12 points and 15 rebounds, and Annabella Farabaugh (Atlanta, Ga.) finished with 11 points to pace the Bears.

Down 34-32 at the half, the Green and White shot 59.1 percent (13-of-22) and outscored Coast Guard 29-17 in the third. Bonifacic and Tamulionis both scored four points during a 12-2 run that pushed the Beavers in front 48-41 at the 5:46 mark. Bonifacic scored five straight points to extend the margin to double digits and Tamulionis drilled a three-pointer and followed it up with a jumper to make it 59-46 with 1:22 to play in the stanza.

The Bears got as close as nine on a free throw by Ward four minutes into the fourth, but Hiller and Bonifacic scored following offensive rebounds to push the lead back to 71-58 with 4:52 to play. Junior Katie Jones (Ridgewood, N.J.) hit two free throws and then found Bauman for a jumper to give Babson its largest lead of the game at 75-60 with 3:19 left.

Coast Guard led 15-14 after one but Jozefick and Hiller connected on back-to-back three-pointers to put the Green and White in front 20-17 just 52 seconds into the second quarter. Jozefick followed six straight points by the Bears to go back in front 28-27, but the Beavers were held without a field goal over the final 4:24 of the period as the hosts went back in front by two.

The Beavers shot 40 percent on the afternoon and finished with a 55-48 edge on the glass. Coast Guard shot 32.1 percent overall and was just 1-of-19 (5.3 percent) from beyond the arc.

Babson returns to action next Friday at 7 p.m. when it hosts either fourth-seeded MIT or fifth-seeded Wellesley in a NEWMAC Tournament quarterfinal.

• The Beavers are 36-10 all-time against Coast Guard and have won each of the last seven meetings between the teams.
• Babson is the first team to go unbeaten in the NEWMAC since the 2012-13 campaign when it finished 18-0.
• The Beavers have won eight in a row and 32 of their last 34 road games against conference foes.
• Babson is 17-0 on the year when carrying a lead into the fourth quarter.
