Women's Hoops Runs Away from Emerson, 80-56

BOSTON—First-year Megan Bauman (East Lyme, Conn.) scored a game-high 17 points to lead five players in double figures as visiting Babson College defeated Emerson College, 80-56, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's basketball action on Wednesday night inside Brown-Plofker Gymnasium.

With its sixth win in the last eight games, Babson improves to 10-7 overall and 3-0 in league play, while Emerson falls to 11-7 overall and 2-2 in the NEWMAC with its second consecutive loss.

Senior Katherine Tamulionis (Foxboro, Mass.) and juniors Shaye Galletta (Riverside, Conn.) and Nicole Hiller (Rocky Hill, Conn.) all scored 11 points, while first-year Jade Perry (Auburn, Maine) recorded her first collegiate double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Beavers. Perry also finished with a game-high four steals, and Bauman and Hiller grabbed eight boards apiece in the victory.

Senior Sam Boyle (Scotts Valley, Calif.) scored 16 points and Kate Foultz (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) added 13 points to lead the Lions, who shot just 30.8 percent in the loss.

Six different players scored during a 14-2 first-quarter run that saw the Green and White turn an 8-7 deficit into a 21-10 advantage. Emerson got as close as eight four minutes into the second, but Hiller knocked down a pair of free throws, Perry scored off an offensive rebound two possessions later, and Tamuliionis followed it up with a three-pointer to make it 33-18 with 3:54 to go until halftime.

Babson extended the margin to 39-23 at the break and Bauman scored seven quick points to start the third quarter as the Beavers' pushed their lead to 48-28 on two free by Tamulionis at the 5:29 mark. Emerson got to within 52-37 on a jumper by junior Rachel Davey (Saratoga, Calif.) with 2:09 to play in the period, but the Green and White responded with a 16-4 spurt to put the game away.

Tamulionis and Bauman closed the third with four straight free throws and Hiller opened the fourth with a jumper to make it 60-39. Galletta converted transition a transition layup and later combined with Hiller to knock down back-to-back three-pointers to give the Beavers a 68-41 advantage with 5:03 to play. First-year Caroline Clark (Philadelphia, Pa.) connected on another triple just over a minute later to give the visitors their biggest lead of the game at 71-42.

Babson shot 50 percent from the floor and matched its season high with eight three-pointers. The Beavers also finished 24-of-29 at the free throw line and held a 43-30 edge on the glass.

Both teams return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. as Babson hosts Smith, while Emerson takes on Springfield.
