Men's Alpine Ski Finishes Third in GS, Slalom to Open Season at Wildcat

GORHAM, N.H.—The Babson College men's alpine ski team opened the 2020 season with back-to-back third-place finishes in the giant slalom and slalom at Wildcat Mountain late last week.

Castleton won both the GS and slalom, while the Beavers finished behind second-place Clarkson on both days.

First-year Liam Mooney (Manchester, Vt.) put together a pair of strong runs in his collegiate debut on Thursday and came in fifth overall with a 1:29.66 in the giant slalom. Classmate Jack Beney (Greenwich, Conn.) finished just over a second behind him in eighth place, while fellow rookie Zachary Roman (Mashpee, Mass.) finished 13th.

Senior Eli Wolfson (Woodland Hills, Calif.), who placed 22nd, and classmate Sean Robinson (Reno, Nev.), who finished 24th, were separated by just 0.28 seconds.

Beney improved upon Thursday's performance in the GS and recorded his second top-10 result by coming in third overall in Friday's slalom. Robinson registered a 14th-place showing, while Wolfson and first-year Asa Haskins-Smith (Ithaca, N.Y.) finished in 19th and 29th place, respectively, for the Beavers.

Babson returns to action on Friday when it travels to Proctor Ski Area in Andover, N.H., for two days of slalom races.
