Seniors Lead Men's Soccer Past Bridgewater State, 5-0

Box Score

Crompton, Ziad Both Score Twice in Rout of Bears

BRIDGEWATER, Mass.—Seniors Alex Crompton (Killington, Vt.) and Youcef Ziad (Holbrook, Mass.) both scored twice as visiting Babson College defeated Bridgewater State University, 5-0, in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Swenson Field.

Babson, which has won six of its last seven games and is seventh in the most recent NCAA regional rankings, improves to 11-5-2 on the year. Bridgewater State slips to 3-13-1 overall with the loss.

Senior Luke Beaulieu (Westfield, N.J.) scored his first career goal in the second half and classmates Steven Heintzelman (Middleton, Mass.) and Austin Mankouski (Suffield, Conn.) combined on a four-save shutout for the Beavers. Sophomore Mitchell Collins (Burlington, Mass.) finished with two assists, while Crompton, sophomores Eamon Keenan (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Garrett Ramos (New York, N.Y.), and first-year RJ Parrilla (Pawcatuk, Conn.) all recorded one assist apiece in the victory.

Senior Michael Da Silva (Milford, Mass.) made five saves over the first 75 minutes before being replaced by sophomore William Russell (Sandwich, Mass.), who stopped three shots over the final 15 minutes for the Bears.

Crompton opened the scoring in the 10th minute with his sixth goal of the season. Bridgewater State was unable to clear the ball out of the box following a corner kick and Crompton buried a left-footed strike inside the right post after sophomore Ross Shellow's (Miami, Fla.) shot was deflected in front to give the Green and White a 1-0 lead.

Crompton notched his second goal of the game heading home Keenan's long service into the box in the 13th minute, and Ziad extended the Beavers' lead to 3-0 in the 23rd minute when he ran onto a through ball from Collins and drilled a low shot past Da Sliva for his third marker of the year.

Ziad completed his brace in the 61st minute, blasting his finish past Da Silva from the penalty spot following a corner kick by Collins. Beaulieu capped the scoring the 84th minute for Babson when he worked a give-and-go with Ramos before hitting a dipping shot from the top of the box that slipped past the outstretched hand of Russell.

The Beavers outshot Bridgewater State 26-9 and finished with an 11-4 edge in corner kicks.

Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson travels to Coast Guard at 3 p.m., while the Bears host Worcester State at 10:30 a.m.
