Greenspan's Strike Sends Men's Soccer Past Bridgewater State, 1-0

Box Score

BRIDGEWATER, Mass.—Junior Jackson Greenspan (Meriden, N.H.) scored the only goal of the match in the 75th minute to lift visiting Babson College to a 1-0 win over Bridgewater State in non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday night at Swenson Field.

With the victory, Babson improves to 9-8-0 overall, while Bridgewater falls to 5-9-3 after seeing its three-game winning streak come to an end.

Senior Logan Ventura (Pittstown, N.J.) and sophomore Luke Beaulieu (Westfield, N.J.) each had an assist, while senior goalkeeper James Takami (Kenmore, Wash.) made three saves to record his third clean sheet of the year for the Beavers.

Despite playing into the wind in the first half, the Green and White had the two best chances of the opening stanza. Sophomore Youcef Ziad (Holbrook, Mass.) recorded the only shot on goal by either side in the 22nd minute, and junior Peter Berens (Belmont, Mass.) hit a rocket off the crossbar following a corner kick in the 37th minute.

Takami came out to the edge of the six-yard box to deny Bears' junior Kessy Alves (Brockton, Mass.) in the 48th minute, while his counterpart, sophomore Michael DaSilva (Milford, Mass.), pushed away a side volley by Ventura from inside 10 yards in the 58th minute. Greenspan finally broke the scoreless deadlock for his third marker of the year with less than 16 minutes remaining.

Beaulieu took a pass from Ventura and slide it to his right for Greenspan, who settled the ball and then ripped a 30-yard strike past a frozen Da Silva and inside the right post.

DaSilva made four saves for Bridgewater State, which was outshot 16-7. Babson also finished with a 7-1 edge in corner kicks, all of which came after halftime.

The Beavers return to action on Saturday when they visit Coast Guard at 12 p.m., while the Bears travel to MCLA on Friday at 6 p.m.
