Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College senior Adam Villari (Landsdale, Pa.) scored in the 69th minute and Bowdoin College senior Matt Dias Costa (Natick, Mass.) notched the equalizer just over four minutes later as the teams played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw in non-conference men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
Babson, which is unbeaten in its last three matches, is now 4-4-2 overall, while Bowdoin is 4-2-2 on the year.
Sophomore Noah Parker (Hampden, Maine) picked up an assist for the Beavers, who got three saves from junior goalkeeper James Takami (Kenmore, Wash.).
Junior Stevie Van Siclen (Carlisle, Mass.) finished with five saves for the Polar Bears, including two of his best stops to keep the game scoreless going to halftime. He denied a glancing header by Villari in the fifth minute and then made a diving stop going to his left to punch away a 20-yard blast by Babson senior Caleb Long (Kingston, Mass.) that was headed for the upper corner in the 31st minute.
The Green and White finally broke the deadlock on Villari's second goal of the season at the 68:41 mark. Following a cross from sophomore Addison Choi (Fullerton, Calif.), Parker played the ball back from the edge of the six-yard box for Villari, who blasted his finish past Van Siclen for a 1-0 lead.
The Beavers nearly doubled their lead in the 72nd minute on a free kick from the edge of the box, but Villari's strike hit a Bowdoin defender in the wall and deflected off the crossbar and out of danger.
The Polar Bears took advantage of their good fortune when Dias Costa tied the match in the 73rd minute. Following a scramble inside the six-yard box, Dias Costa had his first shot from point-blank range stopped by a pair of Babson defenders, but stayed with the rebound and touched it home for his third tally of the year.
The sides combined for just three shots in the overtime periods, with only Beavers' sophomore Jackson Greenspan's (Meriden, N.H.) attempt making it on frame in the 109th minute.
Babson finished with a 16-9 edge in shots and an 8-7 advantage in corner kicks.
The Beavers return to action on Saturday when they visit Wheaton at 12 p.m., while Bowdoin hosts Thomas on Monday at 4 p.m.
