Ventura's Late Goal Pushes Men's Soccer Past MIT, 1-0

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--Junior Logan Ventura (Pittstown, New Jersey) scored the only goal of the match in the 78th minute to lead Babson College over MIT, 1-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action Saturday afternoon at Steinbrenner Stadium.

With its second consecutive win, Babson is now 4-4-1 on the year and improves to 1-1-0 in NEWMAC play, while MIT falls to 4-3-0 and 1-1-0 in conference play.

Junior goalkeeper James Takami (Kenmore, Wash.) finished with four saves to record his third clean sheet of the year for the Beavers. First-year Cole Hoffer (Tuscan, Arizona) stopped one shot for the Engineers.

Babson sophomore Noah Parker (Hampden, Maine) was awarded a penalty kick in the 36th minute but the ball ricocheted off the crossbar, while classmate Carlo Araujo (Mexico City, Mexico) also saw his header go off the crossbar in the eighth minute. Araujo also had a header cleared off the line by an MIT defender 74th minute before Ventura curled a shot past Hoffer into the back right corner of the goal with just over 12 minutes remaining.

The Engineers' best first-half scoring chance came in the 28th minute when junior Ryan Stuntz (Wellesley, Mass.) had his rebound of a shot by senior Kareem Itani (Dallas, Texas) smothered by Takami. Stuntz also had a shot cleared off the line by Ventura in the 63rd minute to keep the game scoreless.
