Box Score FITCHBURG, Mass.—Babson College attempted a season-high 30 shots and put 16 on target, but was forced to settle for a 0-0 double-overtime draw at Fitchburg State University in non-conference men's soccer action on Tuesday night.
Babson, which is unbeaten over its last two matches, is now 2-2-1 on the year, while Fitchburg State improves to 1-2-1.
Sophomore James Takami (Kenmore, Wash.) finished with two saves and recorded his second straight clean sheet for the Beavers. The Green and White outshot the Falcons 30-6 on the night and attempted 18 of the game's 20 corner kicks, 16 of which came after halftime.
Fitchburg State junior goalkeeper Alex Al-Zaibak (Hingham, Mass.) made five first-half stops and got some help when a defender cleared Babson senior Adam Villari's (Landsdale, Pa.) shot off the line in the 28th minute. Al-Zaibak denied a header by sophomore Jackson Greenspan (Meriden, N.H.) in the 51st minute and the defensive-minded Falcons caught a break when Villari appeared to be pulled down inside the box in the 74th minute.
Al-Zaibak made one of his best saves of the night to punch senior Caleb Long's (Kingston, Mass.) 25-yard blast over the crossbar in the 76th minute. He also denied Beavers' first-year Alex Crompton (Killington, Vt.) twice late in regulation to force overtime.
The Green and White dominated both sessions of extra time, but were unable to break through. Al-Zaibak made a pair of saves and junior Pat O'Rourke (Hingham, Mass.) had his header off a cross from sophomore Noah Parker (Hampden, Maine) cleared off the line by a Falcon defender in the 109th minute.
Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts Coast Guard in its conference opener at 11:30 a.m., while Fitchburg State travels to Framingham State for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
