BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Annie Artz (Gates Mills, Ohio) scored the go-ahead goal with 6:49 remaining in the second half to lift 12th-ranked Tufts University to a 2-1 win over 10th-ranked Babson College in non-conference field hockey action on Tuesday evening at MacDowell Field.

With the loss, Babson falls to 5-1 on the year, while Tufts improves to 2-0.

Both defenses dominated the first half as the teams combined for just four total shots. The Jumbos got on the board first a little over four minutes after the break when sophomore Gigi Tutoni (Newtown, Pa.) redirected a pass from senior Dominique Zarrella (Lancaster, Mass.) that snuck through traffic and past Beavers' first-year goalkeeper Deirdre Barry (Longmeadow, Mass.) for a 1-0 lead.

The Green and White turned up the pressure after falling behind as they attempted six penalty corners in the span of 11 minutes leading up to the tying goal. Junior Kelsi McDougle (Hopedale, Mass.) took a pass from sophomore Ashley Tango (Reading, Mass.) on the last of the six corners and fired a shot on goal that was tipped home by junior Elise Towers (Cicero, N.Y.) at the 53:20 mark.

Tufts went back in front for good just under 10 minutes later though following back-to-back penalty corners. Artz got the play started with her insert pass to junior Celia Lewis (Houston, Texas), and then tipped home Lewis' shot at the right post for the game winner.

Barry matched her season high with four saves for the Beavers, while sophomore Emily Polinski (East Brunswick, N.J.) turned away three shots for Tufts.

Both teams attempted seven shots and the Jumbos held a slim 8-7 edge in penalty corners.  

Babson returns to action on Friday when it travels to Clark at 6 p.m. for its conference opener, while Tufts hosts Bates on Saturday at 12 p.m.

GAME NOTES
•    Tuesday's loss snapped the Beavers' 15-game winning streak in the month of September.
•    With her second half goal, Towers has now scored in six consecutive games to open the season.
•    Tuesday's loss was just the second in the last 15 home games for Babson, and also snapped the Beavers' eight-game winning streak against non-conference opponents at MacDowell Field.
