Box Score BRUNSWICK, Maine—Visiting Babson College got goals from six different players and led for much of the first half before 14th-ranked Bowdoin College exploded for nine of the first 10 goals after halftime to defeat the Beavers, 12-6, in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday night at Ryan Field.
With its fourth straight loss, Babson is now 1-6 on the year, while Bowdoin, which has won six consecutive games, moves to 6-1 overall.
Sophomore Axel Brown (Little Compton, R.I.) finished with a goal and an assist for the Beavers. Seniors Bredan Coan (Towson, Md.) and Spencer Low (Natick, Mass.), junior Matthew Logan (Downingtown, Pa.) and first-years Brendan Duffy (Duxbury, Mass.) and Samuel Mishkind (Chappaqua, N.Y.) all scored once. Sophomore Jack O'Donoghue (Scituate, Mass.) led all players with seven ground balls and two caused turnovers in the loss.
Sophomore Shawn Daly (Marshfield, Mass.) finished with four goals and one assist, while first-year Sam Carlin (New Albany, Ohio) won 16-of-17 face-offs and finished with six ground balls to lead the Polar Bears.
Logan opened the scoring for the Green and White at 12:42 of the first quarter, and Brown converted a feed from Flaherty following a tally by Daly to put the Beavers back in front 2-1 with 1:25 left in the stanza. Bowdoin pulled even again 36 seconds into the second period, but Low, who had hit the post earlier in the frame, scored a man-up goal at the 5:48 mark to make it 3-2. The Polar Bears pulled even 2:11 before the break on sophomore Matthew Crowell's (Medfield, Mass.) 12th marker of the season.
Sophomore Austin Fabel (East Rockaway, N.Y.) hit the post five minutes into the third quarter, and the Beavers forced Bowdoin junior goalie Peter Mumford (Plymouth, N.H.) to make a pair of early saves before the hosts took their first lead on a tally by senior Peter Reuter (Ridgefield, N.J.) just over seven minutes into the stanza. The Polar Bears extended their lead to 6-3 with 28 seconds to go in the third and Daly struck for three straight markers to cap a six-goal run that put Bowdoin in front 9-3 with 11:52 remaining in the contest.
Mishkind converted a feed from Brown for a man-up tally at the 6:53 mark to get the Green and White back within 9-4, but the Polar Bears scored three times over the next four minutes to build an eight-goal lead with just under three minutes left.
Sophomore Jordan Shapiro (Pleasantville, N.Y.) finished with 11 saves for Babson, while Mumford stopped 13 shots for Bowdoin.
The Beavers converted 17-of-20 clears and forced 22 turnovers, but picked up a season-low 15 ground balls in the loss.
The Polar Bears held a 38-25 edge in shots and won 18-of-21 face-offs on the night, including all 12 over the first three quarters.
Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts Springfield in its conference opener at 12 p.m., while Bowdoin takes on Trinity at 1 p.m.

• After going 0-for-10 on the extra man over their first three games, the Beavers have scored on six of their last 15 man-up chances over the last four contests.
• Babson's three face-off wins are its fewest since an 11-5 loss at Colorado College on March 19, 2014.
• The Green and White, which entered the game averaging 31.0 ground balls per contest, was held to fewer than 20 for the first time since a loss to St. Lawrence on March 1, 2014.
