No. 14/13 Men's Ice Hockey Edges Daniel Webster, 3-1

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Tim Searles (Chesapeake, Va.) finished with a goal and an assist, and sophomore goaltender Bryan Botcher (Mequon, Wis.) made 27 saves as No. 14 USCHO.com/No. 13 D3hockey.com Babson College defeated visiting Daniel Webster College, 3-1, in non-conference men's ice hockey action on Saturday afternoon at the Babson Skating Center.

Babson, which has won five straight games and is unbeaten in its last six contests, is now 5-1-1 on the year, while Daniel Webster dropped its third straight outing to fall to 1-8-0 overall.

Senior Patrick Young (Medford, Mass.) and sophomore Tommy Munichiello (Weymouth, Mass.) each had a goal for the Beavers, while senior Michael Phillips (Richmond Heights, Ohio) and juniors Rob Devaney (Reading, Mass.) and Zach Phelps (Manorville, Pa.) all recorded one assist.

Junior Anthony Langevin (Albany, N.Y.) scored once and classmate Zach Paisley (Yonkers, N.Y.) and first-year Devin Warfield (Raleigh, N.C.) each recorded an assist for the Eagles, who got 55 saves from junior netminder Anthony D'Urso (Rome, N.Y.).

Both teams killed off two penalties over the first 16 minutes of the opening period, and the Green and White took the lead on Young's first career goal at the 17:30 mark. D'Urso denied Phelps, who picked up his first career point on the play, but Young stuffed home the rebound to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

Daniel Webster took advantage of its third power play to tie the game on Langevin's second tally of the year 7:12 into the second period. Warfield threw a pass in front from along the goal line and Langevin's shot deflected over Botcher's shoulder and in. The Beavers responded a little over eight minutes later though, as Devaney fed Searles on an odd-man rush to go back in front at the 15:21 mark.

The Eagles nearly tied the game twice late in the third period as first-year John Botelho (Melrose, Mass.) hit the pipe with just under six minutes left, and then had another shot get behind Botcher after a bad bounce before he could cover it with 5:00 left. Babson was called for a holding penalty at the 16:55 mark, but killed it off and then got an empty net goal from Munichiello with 33 seconds remaining to ice the victory.

The Beavers held a 58-28 edge in shots, which included a 38-16 bulge over the final two periods, but finished 0-for-6 on the power play. The Green and White also won 47-of-68 face-offs.

Babson returns to the ice on Tuesday when its hosts UMass Dartmouth at 6 p.m., while Daniel Webster is off until December 2 when it will take on Saint Anselm.
