Box Score

GENEVA, N.Y.—No. 10 D3hockey.com/No. 11 USCHO.com Babson College scored three times over the final 13:32 of regulation to pull out a 3-3 overtime tie at sixth-ranked Hobart College inside The Cooler on Saturday.

The Beavers (0-1-1) got goals from seniors Michael Phillips (Richmond Heights, Ohio) and Tim Searles (Chesapeake, Va.), as well as junior Ryan Gouveia (Dartmouth, Mass.). Phillips, classmate Dan Casey (Chatham, N.J.) and juniors Rob Devaney (Reading, Mass.) and Paul Wagner (Walpole, Mass.) all chipped in with an assist.

Bobby Sokol (Belle Vernon, Pa.), junior Jonas Toupal (Vcelna, Czech Republic) and classmate Vincent Russo (Jackson, N.J.) all scored once for the Statesmen, which got two assists from senior Bo Webster (Aurora, Ontario).

Toupal scored on a 5-on-3 power play to give Hobart a 1-0 lead at 15:51 of the first period. The hosts notched their second power play tally of the night when Russo scored 10:17 into the second period and Sokol followed with his third goal of the two-game series to push the Statesmen lead to 3-0 with 2:08 left in the middle stanza.

Babson dominated the third period, outshooting Hobart 22-4 and scoring three times to tie the game. Gouveia tallied his second goal of the season on the power play to make it 3-1 at the 6:28 mark, and Phillips followed with a blast from the right face-off circle six and a half minutes later to cut the deficit to one. Searles then picked up his first goal of the season at 15:27 to draw the Beavers even at 3-3.

The Green and White forced Statesmen junior goaltender Frank Oplinger (Sewickley, Pa.) to make four saves late in regulation and outshot the hosts 4-2 in a scoreless overtime period.

Sophomore Matt Pompa (Palm City, Fla.) started and made 24 saves over the first two periods for Babson before being replaced by classmate Bryan Botcher (Mequon, Ill.), who turned away six shots over the final 25 minutes. Oplinger made a season-high 45 stops for Hobart.

The Beavers finished with 48-33 edge in shots and went 1-for-7 on the power play, while the Statesmen scored twice on the man-advantage.

Babson returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Plymouth State at 4 p.m. inside the Babson Skating Center, while Hobart travels to Lebanon Valley on Friday at 7 p.m.
