Box Score NORTON, Mass.—Babson College senior Adam Villari (Landsdale, Pa.) scored on a free kick with nine seconds left in regulation to lift visiting Babson College to a 2-1 victory over Wheaton College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Keefe Field.
Babson, which is unbeaten over its last four games, is now 5-4-2 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play, while Wheaton slips to 6-5-1 and 0-2-1 in the NEWMAC.
Junior Logan Ventura (Pittstown, N.J.) also scored for the Beavers, who got two saves from classmate James Takami (Kenmore, Wash.).
Junior Amara Sesay (Bronx, N.Y.) scored his seventh goal of the season for the Lyons, while first-year Roni Diniz (Brockton, Mass.) chipped in with an assist. Junior goalkeeper Erik Wisniewski (Salisbury, Mass.) finished with one save in a losing effort.
Ventura gave the Green and White a 1-0 lead with his second goal of the season in the game's second minute. Sophomore Carlo Araujo (Mexico City, Mexico) beat a defender along the end line before slipping a pass back to Ventura, who buried his finish past Wisniewski at the 1:54 mark.
The Lyons pulled even in the 68th minute when Sesay touched home the rebound of a shot by Diniz following a breakaway down the left side. Villari missed the target on a couple of chances over the final 12 minutes of the match, but helped Babson avoid overtime his 90th-minute strike.
Wheaton committed a foul at the top of the box with 10 seconds remaining and Villari got Wisniewski leaning before sliding his free kick around the Lyons' wall for the go-ahead score.
Wheaton finished with a 15-10 edge in shots, although both teams put just three on frame, and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Babson returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts 10th-ranked UMass Boston at 3:30 p.m., while the Lyons travel to Trinity on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
