Box Score WILLIMANTIC, Conn.—Visiting Babson College allowed a pair of goals just 1:48 apart early in the second half and dropped its season opener, 3-0, at Eastern Connecticut State University on Tuesday afternoon.
Alexander Fazzino (Bolton, Conn.) converted a feed from JD Stearns (Bolton, Conn.) in the 41st minute to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead at halftime. Justin Jensen (Wethersfield, Conn.) made it 2-0 with his tally in the 58th minute, and Xavier Doran (Hebron, Conn.) followed with a penalty kick in the 60th minute to give Eastern Connecticut State (1-0-0) a three-goal advantage.
First-year goalkeeper Ryan Murphy (Cromwell, Conn.) made six saves to earn a clean sheet in his first collegiate start for the Warriors, while senior Stephen Donato (Morganville, N.J.) stopped two shots for the Beavers.
Senior Tyler Carlos (Prospect, Conn.) registered four shots on goal for Babson (0-1-0), which outshot Eastern Connecticut State 9-5. The Green and White also held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks, four of which came in the opening 11 minutes of the match.
Both teams return to action on Saturday as Babson hosts Husson at 12 p.m., while Eastern Connecticut State travels to Muhlenberg for a 7 p.m. start.
GAME NOTES
• Babson is now 4-4-0 all-time against Eastern Connecticut State, and had won four straight in the series before Tuesday's loss.
• The Beavers had led or been tied at halftime of their last seven matches prior to trailing 1-0 on Tuesday.
• The loss was just the third in the last 11 matches away from home for Babson going back to the start of last season.
• Babson is now 17-9-1 in the month of September going back to 2012.
