BENNINGTON, N.H.—The Babson College men's alpine ski team put together a number of strong individual performances on its way to finishing fourth in Saturday's slalom and second in Sunday's giant slalom at the Saint Anselm Carnival at Crotched Mountain.
The University of Massachusetts finished first in the slalom for its first victory of the season, while Castleton State College edged the Green and White in the giant slalom by just over a second.
Junior Carter Dowd (Salt Lake City, Utah), who is bidding to become the three-time MacConnell Division Skier of the Year, came in fourth in the slalom with a time of 1:46.37 before having the third-fastest second run in the GS to move up six spots, finishing third overall with a time of 2:04.13. First-year T.J. Pope (Bountiful, Utah) also had a strong weekend for the Beavers, posting an 11th-place result in Saturday's slalom before following it up with the fastest first run in Sunday's GS on his way to a sixth-place finish with a time of 2:04.23.
First-year John Boland (Waitsfield, Vt.) posted his best collegiate finish, coming in 13th in the slalom on Saturday, while juniors Sam Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and Graham Quisenberry (Farmington, Conn.) were 14th and 20th, respectively. Barber also finished 11th in the giant slalom, five spots ahead of sophomore brother Max Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), who was 16th.
Senior Kevin Dachos (Northampton, Mass.) finished 21st in the GS, while Quisenberry came in 24th overall.
The Green and White, which is all but assured of an eighth consecutive trip to the United States Collegiate Ski & Snowboard Association (USCSA) Eastern Regional Championships, enters the final weekend of competition in second place, one point behind Clarkson University and a single point clear of third-place Castleton.
Babson will wrap up its MacConnell Division schedule next Saturday and Sunday when it competes at West Mountain in Queensbury, N.Y.
