Men's Soccer Runs Away From Emerson, 5-0, In Regular-Season Finale

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—First-year Noah Parker (Hampden, Maine) scored twice and junior Adam Villari (Landsdale, Pa.) finished with a career-high three assists as Babson College defeated visiting Emerson College, 5-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.

With its third straight win, Babson finished the regular season at 10-6-2 overall and 4-2-1 in conference play. The Beavers will be the third seed in next week's NEWMAC Tournament. Emerson wraps up the season at 5-13-0 overall and 0-7-0 in league play.

Senior Andrew Gonzalez (Durham, Conn.) and first-years Carlo Araujo (Bradenton, Fla.) and Youssef Silwanis (Dubai, United Arab Emirates) all scored once for the Beavers. Seniors Tyler Carlos (Prospect, Conn.) and James Rosso (Hingham, Mass.), junior Shane Mandel (Syosset, N.Y.) and first-year Ted Hilger (Hopkinton, Mass.) each had one assist apiece.

Gonzalez staked the Green and White to a 1-0 halftime lead with his second goal of the season in the 17th minute. Villari took a back pass from Carlos and sent a low shot toward goal that was redirected by Gonzalez from inside the six-yard box.

The Beavers relentless pressure finally paid off late as they scored four times in the final 30 minutes to break the game open. Araujo notched his third goal of the year off a back heel from Hilger when his 10-yard shot hit the underside of the crossbar and bounced in to make it 2-0 in the 61st minute.

Parker followed with back-to-back markers, the first of his collegiate career, in the span of three minutes to make it 4-0. He tucked a shot inside the right post off a feed from Mandel in the 74th minute, and then collected a long ball at the top of the box and shed a defender before beating Lions' senior goalkeeper Carter Bowers (Gorham, Maine) again in the 77th minute.

Silwanis added his first career goal in the closing seconds for the final margin.

Senior goalkeepers Stephen Donato (Morganville, N.J.) and Tanner Click (Lawrence, Kan.) each made three saves for Babson. Bowers turned away four shots for Emerson.

The Beavers held a 22-12 edge in shots and attempted eight of the game's nine corner kicks.

The official NEWMAC Tournament pairings will be released later on Saturday.
