Late Goal By Carlos Helps Men's Soccer Edge Clark, 2-1

Box Score

WORCESTER, Mass.—Senior Tyler Carlos (Prospect, Conn.) scored a pair of goals, including the go-ahead brace in the 84th minute, as visiting Babson College earned a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon.

With its second consecutive win, Babson is now 7-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 in conference play, while Clark falls to 3-8-1 overall and 0-4-0 in the NEWMAC.

Carlos opened the scoring with his team-leading fifth goal of the season just 7:09 into the match, converting a penalty kick after Beavers' junior Shane Mandel (Syosset, N.Y.) was tackled on a breakaway inside the box. First-year Ted Hilger (Hopkinton, Mass.) narrowly missed a chance to extend the lead when his shot went wide in the 43rd minute, and classmate Noah Parker (Hampden, Maine) hit the post in the 75th minute and then had his rebound cleared off the goal line by Cougars' junior Michael Spanos (Waterford, Conn.).

After being stymied by the Babson defense for most of the afternoon, Clark finally broke through for the equalizer when first-year Kyle Krutis (Scotch Plains, N.J.) scored the first goal of his career in the 83rd minute. Beavers' senior goalkeeper Stephen Donato (Morganville, N.J.) stopped the initial shot by Cougars' junior Zack Blais (Tiverton, R.I.), but Krutis buried the rebound.

The Green and White came right back though, as Carlos headed home a throw in from first-year Carlo Araujo (Bradenton, Fla.) just 56 seconds later for the game winner.

Donato and his counterpart, Cougars' sophomore Connor Maguire (Dunstable, Mass.), each finished with three saves.

Both teams recorded 14 shots and Clark attempted the only corner kick in the game.

Babson returns to action on Monday when it travels to Bowdoin for a 1 p.m. start, while the Cougars visit the University of New England on Thursday at 7 p.m.
