LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—Led by third-place finishes from both senior Kevin Dachos (Northampton, Mass.) and first-year Tatum Alkier (Collingwood, Ontario), the Babson College men's and women's alpine ski teams posted a pair of fourth-place results in the slalom at Whiteface Mountain on Sunday afternoon.
The Castleton men were victorious for the second consecutive day, while Clarkson and Saint Anselm finished second and third, respectively. In the women's race, Brown ran its MacConnell Division winning streak to 36 races with an easy triumph over second-place Castleton and third-place Clarkson.
The third-place showing capped a terrific weekend for Alkier, who finished second in the giant slalom on Saturday. She posted a two-run time of 1:30.89 to finish just 0.03 seconds out of second. Fellow first-year Michelle Martin (Belmont, Mass.) matched the best finish of her career coming in seventh with a time of 1:32.36, while sophomore Megan Jones (Essex, Mass.) posted a time of 1:39.56 to finish 22nd.
First-year Kathleen Sheppard (Woodstock, Vt.) came in 38th, classmate Alexis Kane (North Syracuse, N.Y.) finished 39th, and sophomore Molly Danzig (Allendale, N.J.) was 52nd overall.
On the men's side, Dachos wrapped up a tremendous weekend with two of the fastest runs of the day to post a total time of 1:22.83 for the Beavers. Junior Sam Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), who finished second in the GS on Saturday, came in 15th with a time of 1:26.12, while first-year John Boland (Waitsfield, Vt.) finished 20th with a two-run time of 1:27.55.
Sophomore Max Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) came in 22nd overall, junior Graham Quisenberry (Farmington, Conn.) was 28th, and sophomore Ben Greenspan (Chappaqua, N.Y.) finished 33rd. Junior Carter Dowd (Salt Lake City, Utah), who struggled his first time down the mountain, posted the fastest second-run time (39.56) to come in 35th overall.
Babson returns to action next weekend at Crotched Mountain, competing in the giant slalom on Saturday and the slalom on Sunday.
