Box Score BABSON PARK, Mass.—Senior Justin Laurenzo (Park Ridge, N.J.) scored twice and Babson College built a four-goal halftime lead on its way to a 6-0 victory over visiting Lesley University in non-conference men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
Babson, which is ranked ninth in New England, is now 5-1-0, while Lesley, which saw its three-game unbeaten streak come to an end, drops to 2-3-1.
Laurenzo scored both of his markers in the first half for the Beavers, who also got goals from juniors Andrew Gonzalez (Durahm, Conn.), James Rosso (Hingham, Mass.) and Mario Vicente (Miami, Fla.), and sophomore Moses Lim (Torrance, Calif.). Seniors Brenden Matthews (Marlborough, Mass.) and Peter Van Noppen (Providence, R.I.), sophomore Shane Mandel (Syosset, N.Y.), and first-year Christopher Doire (Mansfield, Mass.) each contributed an assist.
Gonzalez opened the scoring in the 13th minute with his second goal in as many games, heading in a corner kick from Matthews. Vicente extended the lead to 2-0 just 10 minutes later with his first career goal just moments after coming in as a substitute. Following a long throw in from senior Patrick Ellis (Braintree, Mass.) that was punched towards the top of the box by Lynx junior goalkeeper Chase Donley (Elizabethtown, Pa.), Vicente collected the rebound and ripped a blast inside the right post.
Laurenzo notched his first goal of the game at the 30:01 mark off a feed from Mandel and then converted a penalty kick for his fourth goal of the year in the 34th minute after Mandel was taken down in the box to make it 4-0.
The Green and White wasted little time extending the lead further as Rosso scored his second goal of the fall just 7:42 into the second half. After heading his initial attempt just wide, Rosso received a feed from Doire just outside of the six-yard box and beat Lesley junior keeper Trevor Martin (Whitinsville, Mass.), who came on at the break, for a five-goal lead.
Lim capped the scoring for Babson with his first goal of the season in the 74th minute. Long sent a pass across the box to Van Noppen at the edge of the six-yard box, and Van Noppen slid a pass to Lim, who buried a 10-yard shot inside the right post for a 6-0 advantage.
Junior Stephen Donato (Morganville, N.J.) made one save over the first 64:35 before giving way to sophomore Joe McWeeney (Lexington, Mass.), who did not have to make a stop over the final 25:25, as the Green and White posted its second consecutive shutout.
Donley and Martin combined to make two saves for Lesley.
The Beavers finished with a 24-3 edge in shots and attempted nine of the game's 10 corner kicks.
Babson returns to action on Sunday when it travels to take on third-ranked Williams College at 1:30 p.m., while Lesley will host Emerson College on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
