LAKE PLACID, N.Y.—After earning second-team All-America honors in the giant slalom on Wednesday, sophomore Carter Dowd (Salt Lake City, Utah) put together the best individual time of the day in his second slalom run to surge into third place overall and earn first-team All-America accolades at the United States Collegiate Ski and Snowboard Association (USCSA) National Championships on Friday at Whiteface Mountain.
The Babson College men, which posted a 17th-place result in the GS, rebounded to come in fourth in the slalom and finished tied for 10th in the combined standings in their seventh consecutive trip to nationals.
Dowd was in 11th place following his first run but came in with a time of 46.05, the best of the day by three one-hundreths of a second, to post a total time of 1:38.16. He becomes just the third male in program history to earn All-America honors in both the giant slalom and slalom, and the first to achieve the feat since 2004.
Sophomore Sam Barber (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) came in 27th with a time of 1:47.63, while first-year Evan Cooke (Brookline, N.H.) finished in 29th position with a time of 1:48.55. Sophomore Graham Quisenberry (Farmington, Conn.) rebounded from a tough first run by trimming nearly nine seconds off his time on his second trip down the hill to come in 32nd overall. Junior Kevin Dachos (Northampton, Mass.) did not finish his first run.
